Traditionally a time for alcohol-fuelled pointless arguments, so....
Which is the best Bond film? (please get drunk before replying).

OHMSS - for sure !

For humour (without descending to cheesy Moore-era levels [1]) I'd pick Goldfinger; some quality one-liners in there (The "Shocking, positively shocking" electric fire/bath scene, the classic "Do you expect me to talk?...", etc.).

  • +1 for Gold finger

"Do you expect me to talk?"

"No Mr Bond, I expect you to die!"

I like the one where Dr. Evil captures James Bond and his henchmen spend three days torturing him with pliers, a blow torch and a soldering iron then when they get tired of him crying for his mom they take him out the back shoot him through the back of the head and dump his body in a canal :D . :D:D

Or maybe I just deamedt that :cry::cry:

  • Which is the one with Halle Berry?
When she appeared out of the water in her bikini...By 'eck!

I must say though, that "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!" is an all time classic.

I think boybiker mixed up Bond with Scorceses 'Casino'? Head in vice / gruesome baseball bat death anyone?

From Russia With Love is the best spy film of all time, not just the best Bond. The book is superb as well.

    Utter nonesense!

I'll give you the, "No Mr Bond I expect you to die" line, and Halle Berry in her drawers, but it's still OHMSS because:

    1. It has the best song - We have all the time in the world
    2. It has the best Bond Girl - Diana Rigg
    3. It has the most absurd plot - Kojak living on top of a Swiss mountain hypnotising foxy international girls to release nerve gas from their make up bags.
    4. It has the saddest ending of ANY film, that has EVER been made or that WILL ever be made, EVER.
    5. It has the only known appearance of a Lancastrian in any blockbuster.

Granted, George Lazenby couldn't act his way out of a paper bag, though...

I think a Scorcese remake of Dr No would be good it could be called 'Dr no don't wire my testicles into the mains'

Crikey! And I thought the Austin Powers plots were silly....

FRWL and OHMSS are tied as being the best Bond Film ever.

Followed very closely by Casino Royale

    NW Londoner,
    I partially agree with you...

BUT OHMSS also has a great theme tune (remixed by Propellerheads), Lazenby in a kilt with a fake Scotch accent, a sub-plot based around Kojak's earlobes and Diana Rigg in a fur coat in a Swiss hay loft... Come on, people, wake up.

    Mr Finch,

Simply repeating the word, "No" at various intervals will never convince me that OHMSS can be bettered. Go away, drink two bottles of Bailey's and come back drunk and up for a proper Festive barney.

I guess it makes a change from Bond actors who can't do any other accent but Scottish (An Egyptian in Highlander, Sean? Come off it!!).

    Hi David,
How's Winchester these days? I used to live there - on Bereweeke Rd for a while and then Harestock. Is it still impossible to buy any property for less than 200,000?

Not too far from me, then - I'm just up the road in Littleton. But renting not mortgaged, which I suspect is slightly easier on the wallet.

It was partly living in Winchester that made me leave the country! Not that it was that bad, just that at the end of the month I had about 5 quid left over...

OK, Steve Potts, seeing as I failed to convince you with my passionate argument, I will now reason with you instead.

I'm not saying that OHMSS is a bad film, but From Russia With Love has more memorable characters on both sides, one of the best fight scenes in cinema history (on the train), a great musical score (007 playing during the bombing of the Russian embassy - although I concede that Louis Armstrong's number was just as good as the FRWL theme) and a far superior, more believable plot.

The best Bond line comes from Goldfinger, when Bond is by the pool with a beautiful girl and Felix Leiter comes along. Bond (to girl): "Run along now darling, man talk." Then gives her a slap on the arse as she leaves. Classy.

The Pierce Brosnan ones were the leftover wood shavings from the totem pole of 007 films.
