Firstly, I've already consulted http://www.citrusskies.co.uk/fcn/, but need some confirmation, given that my bike is so odd: cheap chinese folding bike with full suspension on knobblies. Here is my rationale:
 Folding bicycle: FCN 10 (It's a 'Brompton/Collapsible') Most folders come with skinines/slicks, but not mine. A MTB with knobblies is 9, one greater than slicks ( 8 ). So +1. A knobbly MTB with full suspension is 11. That's +2 from a regular knobbly, so +2 for me. Effemera: non-cycling clothing, backpack and helmet. +2.
Which adds up to 15. Am I right there, or are there objections to my logic?

  • Now I think you ought to just start from full sus knobbly MTB and add 2 for your clothing etc, rather than adding in the way you have done... your bike looks very like a full sus MTB to me!

    That would give you 13...

Its not really a full suss mountain bike though, you'd be mad or extremely brave to hammer that off road!

And a stand, I know its not in the rules but its gotta count. You won't find one of them on a full suss rig

    What about a 14?

I think I need some help with mine too.

I ride a carrera subway, which has no suspension, but I'm currently running 2" nobblies on it. It's technically a hybrid (though far from fast) but the nobblies puts it in the MTB range.

I ride flat pedals, and wear normal clothes.

    Any help?

i say mtb with nobblies although halfords say "town and trail bike" but in the bike shed at work they dont stand out as anything other than a rigid mtb.

*edited to add* makes you fcn 11

actually i could do with a check on my tires. i have schwalbe hurricanes on and they are kinda knobbley but the middle is more of a road type tread :?: . still 2 inch mind.
  • I'm glad I'm not the only confused one, I have a fast hybrid (7), wear baggies (1), pannier (1) and flats (2).
So I think anyone with a 10 or less is fair game even though I am a lot faster than a MTB, and they can't claim my scalp because of the pannier etc. Or am I missing something, stealth scalping maybe ?
    FCN 11, Hmmm

    11 eh? Brilliant.

I think I'll grow a beard to further handicap myself as soon as possible.

    I'd make that 11 too.
