Where to camp in the New Forest in the depths of December?

I'm planning on camping overnight in the New Forest between Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Although no-one's likely to complain if I just pitch anywhere, it'd be nice to do it properly.
Assuming the official camp sites are closed, is there anywhere open where you're allowed to just turn up and camp for free? The New Forest website is pretty crap at information.
Will need to be near some kind of surfaced road - we'll be traveling with at least one very-Tarmac-biased motorbike.
