Cycling up the road just 2 mins from my house on the way to uni and came to this pinch point where my side of the road have right of way over the other side of traffic (signposted traffic calming measure) and I pulled into the middle of my lane after checking no one was behind me.
Car on other side decided I didn't need right of way and pulled out and swipped me and I came of my bike, shoe came off and did a few rolls. He then doesn't stop and drives off, luckily there was a paramedic emergency response two cars back and he checks me out, nothing serious. No one got his plate though, surely he has to stop?

So anyway to the driver on the 54 plate silver 1series I hope something equally bad happens to you to balance things out.

A bmw AND a 1 series, what more is there to say.

Condolences on the spill, but you can't licence against idiots like that.

I am going to try and condition myself, that if I ever witness something similar, to try and make sure I take the reg plate down, a little surprised the paramedics didn't do so, as in I would have thought they are less likely to be shocked into immobilisation like a usual passer by.

Hope you and the bike are ok.

Sukh Sorry to hear that you got knocked off, but glad that you weren't badly hurt. You should certainly consider reporting the accident to the police. Who knows, there may be traffic cameras in the area....?

Nasty - Report it to the police anyway - enough info to be going on with and very probably a local'ish car.
  • At the least, they'll have a record of yet another cycling accident on the roads. Anyone know what the trigger level for concerted action by the police is?

Thanks for the support, about to go cycling to the library, as they say if you fall off the horse get back on straight away. Got all my lights up and reflective bag on.

I live in central London so there isn't quite a local pool of cars, so many pass through, and the paramedic was about 3 cars back so couldn't see the plate. In fairness, he was a top bloke :)

If I saw the guy again I dare say I would kick his wing mirrors off, but there's no way to be sure it was the same car so shall just leave it as life experience, cars don't respect cyclists right of way.

Sorry to hear that and glad you're ok. I got knocked off by a twit in a van on Tuesday, this time him overtaking a wee bit too close. He fckd off as well and i didnt get the reg. Got him on CCTV but couldnt read the plate. Doh.
Anyway, try not to let it consume you and accept that occasionally you will get wiped out. I also find fantasizing about what id like to do to them if ever i caught them helps. These fantasies usually involve loss of teeth and boot sized dents in their doors. Not that im a violent person, i just object to being squished.
    Keep riding (and praying) :)

Sukh, you MUST report this to the police, even if you dont think it will do any good for you personally. They will then know that cyclists are being hit and run on in the area.

This is one of the reasons why I got the atc3k, sadly it doesnt work in the dark though.

Police were excllent when I got hit by a black cab in Camden and v sympathetic. I did get the reg no but no witnesses. The driver didn't stop either but the police sent me details of his name and address as well as insurance info. Clearly they scared him into reporting the accident to his insurers, so the British Cycling solicitors are now on the case. If nothing else happens the cabbie's been given a fright and might not be so cavalier in future. Worth reporting IMO.

+1 for reporting what you have, just for the statistics if nothing else.
Today is a good day to ride
