White Rose Challenge Training Rides

The White Rose Challenge is not the White Rose Classic.
The White Rose Classic will be run by Kudu Bikes. It will not be organised by either BC or Derek.
OK back to the White Rose Challenge.
After finalising details with Cancer Research UK, we are now ready to go live and entries will begin later this week. See the other thread for why we have chosen this charity, but please come along and support us. Derek is the original organiser and is adamant that things will remain the same as what riders are used to, same course and same (actually we know we can improve) high standards for the event.
The entrance fee will not change for 2009.
OK now a plea. While I have sorted out volunteers (from the charity) we really would like some cyclists onboard to help us. So if you'd like to come and join our organising team please get in touch, we can offer you a place in the event or you can just come along and join our fundraising efforts. It would be nice to put together a team of likeminded volunteers to make this event stand out as one of the best in aid of charity.
Cyclist's - we'll be asking you to help us raise individual sponsorship, your choice of course, but a carrot of a nice (bike? - subject to sponsorship) as a prize would seem to be a good idea... I'm sure this will happen!!
Website will be completed in the coming days.

Entries are now open for the White Rose Challenge, see:
http://www.whiterosechallenge.co.uk/Entry-Form.php
While it is not compulsory, I will get the sponsorship forms online as soon as I can next week. We are going to announce a target that we hope to acheive next week also, so watch this space.<b>Event Website:</b> http://www.whiteroseclassic.co.uk0 -
Over the coming months I will be organising training rides on the White Rose Challenge routes. Starting with the short route (below) it will be a social outing and anybody is welcome to tag along, whether you are riding the event or not.
I will use these rides to log the routes with my GPS, so as we have current files for the website.
If anyone has a specific date they would like to do these rides, then please contact me and we may be able to arrange it.
As I am just getting back into cycling again, it is a good opportunity for others who have been off the bike/need base training to use these rides as preparation for the event itself.<b>Event Website:</b> http://www.whiteroseclassic.co.uk0 -

Is it possible please for me to see the profile of the routes - they do not appear to be on the website, or a link to them?
I am unsure whether to go for the 130km or the 182km routes, and the profile over the extra 50k's could well be the determining factor....
I also note though that currently there are 3 times as many entrants for the longest route as there are for the 130km one :?

ah - is the white rose classic & the white rose challenge one and the same event? if they are I have found the profile on the "classic" section on the british cycling website..although the websites are giving different dates for the event - either the 28th June or the 19th July...... :?:
http://www.whiteroseclassic.co.uk/index.php?page=routes
not that it takes much to confuse me  :oops:0 -
No they are not the same event, we have seperate threads for each event.
Kudu bikes will run the Classic on a new course on 19th July 2009 running from Hawes.
Derek & Cancer Research UK will run the Challenge on the old established course on 28th June 2009.
I have now added a link from the routes page, but this is for the 2008 routes and although very little has changed (start, finish &HQ) I will update asap.<b>Event Website:</b> http://www.whiteroseclassic.co.uk0 -

Friday 26th December
Meet at: 21 Nursery Garth, Wetherby, LS22 6TP

Ride details: A 3 to 4 hour ride over undulating terrain, fairly easy going as this is a social ride. Anyone wanting a harder workout can always peel off and do sprints etc. Route will take in a loop including Knaresborough, Boroughbridge and Tockwith.
Sunday 28th December

OK the above is very flexible. We can all train on our own, but it's so much nicer to have others along. Email/phone me if you're up for a ride and we'll sort something out. Note: please do not ask me to start the route from a certain area then not bother turning up. Not only does this cost me, is it really fair to do this? afterall I'm running these rides to help you.

I was waiting for the weather forecast for Sunday, think it's going to be wet though.
However if anyone wants to commit give me a shout with ideas.<b>Event Website:</b> http://www.whiteroseclassic.co.uk0 -
How was the ride last Sunday in those strong winds Booboocp?
I just had a quick blast from Meanwood out to Ilkley and back on the north side of the Wharfe mid-morning and was thinking about you and the others being blown about up on the hills.
I will try and join you one of these days if I ever manage to pack the fire breather and children off out on a Sunday for a few hours.0 -

A couple called in and cancelled, so we knocked it on the head. Not surprised really as it was pretty rough.
No takers yet for this coming weekend - I'm still prepared to get out though...<b>Event Website:</b> http://www.whiteroseclassic.co.uk0 -
If anyone wants to brave the weather and fancies a ride that does the White Rose route from Otley to Stump Cross Caverns, then turning off the route to Appletreewick and Burnsall for a coffee break. Back to Otley via Beamsley and maybe up Langbar?
Start time at 9 on Sunday at Chevin Cycles or the Clock tower.Crediamo in te, bici!
