Commuting Chain Gang?

There's a few people that commute in a similar direction as me at my work, so I was thinking of suggesting that we combine and commute home together as far as possible. Safety in numbers being the main idea.
Anyone tried this & how did you get on?

Brings to mind the SCR team kit discussion
Would be a fun sight to see the Embankment Peloton in full team kit.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.

I can just imagine it now, with James and Greg66 up front on their posh kit, the whole peloton heading down the Embankment at 30mph+, sucking weaker cyclists in at the front and spitting out at the back!
Just imagine the split at Lambeth Bridge roundabout and the fun negotiating Parliament Square! Not to mention the speed through the wind tunnel :-)0 -

That would almost tempt me to commute from Wimbledon to Wimbledon via the Embankment...0 -
As a joke you could all wear tabbards emblazened with "traffic calming" on the back.0

I can just picture it - a human combine harvester dressed in lycra, the weak mere mortals sucked in one end, scalps removed and bagged and the bikes plus fleshy headless rides spat out behind.
With Greg66 following behind on his Cervelo shopper :shock:Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Oi! Yer cheeky bugger! I heard that.
Could be a couple of weeks (or more) before I'll be able to do the Jens Voight pulls on the front. But in time...
I *really* like the idea of a big split sweeping around Lambeth Bridge roundabout though. That would be cool.0 -
Now that would be something for youtube - global recognition of the SCRRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Haven't tried it, but IME commuting drivers hate with a passion riders rising two up. If they were to come across a chain gang, they'd probably go bananas. I wouldn't think there's much safety in making yourself the target of road rage.
Safest rule I know is try to keep as close as possible to the ambient speed of the traffic0 -
The driver behind the SCR team on the recent RP ride didn't seem none to happy.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Your double negative confuses me... was he happy or not?
*shuffles off to pedant's corner*
I agree that riding two abreast on a busy road isn't a great idea, but I don't think you necessarily have to do that if you're cycling as a group.
Despite that, I have enough to worry about on the road without worrying about other cyclists' safety... if that's what the OP means. And the impact of the SCR jersey would be lessened for me - I think I'm the only one on my route!0 -

Who nose perhaps they woz just happy to see our awesome formation or perhaps they woz in a hurry so decided to cut across the park, which I sure every sane person knows is not a good idea at that time of day.

Curses! I'm not the pedant I used to be...0 -
Just think of the reputation the SCR team kit would get, in fact it might spoil SCR altogether with riders changing routes and jumping off their bikes to fix imaginary problems whenever a player comes near.
Nope scrap the kit idea, stealth is the way forward apart from team events like, RP or the planned Sportives.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

I've done some of my commuting in a chain gang, good fun actually.
We were riding in a row of 3 the other week when we happened upon another rider. I thought it would be great fun for the 3 of us just to tuck in behind him not say a word! Sadly I was riding 3rd so we just went past0
