How do all,
now i have the space in my Garage, im looking at the old Bike work stands, can anyone point me in the direction of a site(s) with some good deals on them please?
as im not the biggest expert on the repair of bikes im not looking to spend vastly large amounts of cash on one thats overly complicated as many appear to be, but there has to be one out there for a reasonable price, that will do the job of holding my bike in place when i need to fix or service it.
if anyone has seen any floating about can you push them my way please?
any advise is greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Halfords one is £50 and as good as it needs to be, IMO. Better than most of the budget ones. For DIY I can't see any reason to spend more, unless you need easy storage or better usability on uneven ground, neither of which it's good at.Uncompromising extremist0

it is strange how many times this is asked"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

At the risk of making myself look a complete numpty  and to take advantage of an active thread on this subject rather than risk starting a new one , what would this be like to use as a work stand?

Presumably the lack of a vice/grip would render it pretty much useless? As someone who is new to this and never done much in the way of repairs, I would be very interested to know if it could be used as a budget work stand?Vaaru Titanium Sram Red eTap

Handful has got a point, I was wondering a similar thing, and thinking that i could bodge up a simple wall-mounted bracket myself...Early Orange 5, Felt Z85, Scott Thicko, modified Giant full suss (both nicked)- beat-up single-speed rigid 1992 Saracen (scrapped), and various 2-wheelers with big engines0

i currently have something along those lines mounted on the wall, all be it a little bit cruder and bodged, and whilst it is a cost save, and handy its also mighty annoying when you come to do do something on the other side of your bike?! as you have to take it off and turn it round.
other thing is, unless your going to have something that folds up against the wall, its mighty irritating as it sticks out the wall at a lower height, snag myself on it all the time.
that's my view and the main reason why im looking into a proper one that i can set up in the middle of the garage and get round it quite easily.
peronal preference though, don't let me detire you, it works at the end of the day. just mate sure to pad it so it doesnt scratch the bike.0 -
I have this one from Ribble - £57, folds away to a very compact size and feels quality when used - I would highly recommend it:

Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op have just dropped their Revolution Tune Up Workstand to £50.
Generically similar to the Ribble one mentioned above - and they do free delivery!!

I've been using one of these for years and never had a problem with it.

I have got this one from Decathlon, it does a great job, not portable but very solid. And under £50.0

Just checked, the Halfords one is a Minoura W-3100. £50, excellent buy. If you don't want to buy a cheap stand from Halfords though, Merlin have the exact same stand on special this week for £78.95Uncompromising extremist0

Nice idea. I hope you have a good strong wall with decent rawl plugs for when you crank the pedals. A good set of (Steel/Brass) wall fixings for stone walls should only set you back about 3-5 pounds.17 Stone down to 12.5 now raring to get back on the bike!0
