I quite fancy doing an advanced driving course - are they expensive?

  • You need another option on that poll:

"Spent money for car and driving lessons on bike instead"

Not if your wife's grandad is an observer and gives free lessons!
  • Don't know, been a serious cyclist since before I was old enough to drive. Tell you what though even I get seriously narked at some of the stunts some cyclists [ok not cyclists but tossers who happen to be riding a bike - in other words cyclists to everyone else]

Turning right from the left hand curb w/o looking behind
Riding on the pavement in same direction and dropping on to the road without looking FFS!
jumping the lights is the one that winds me up though I just think of all the other drivers thinking what a tw*t and next time I'm out on the bike they think I'm one as well.

That's me - a cyclist - already converted. Makes you think what the non-cyclist thinks then doesn't it? No wonder there is so much abuse thrown at us.

I've been a cyclist since I was 13 years old and I'm sure this gave me good road sense when I came to take my driving test. One problem today is that kids don't ride their bikes on the road if at all so when they come to take their test they have no road sense at all.
I've also passed my motor cycle, LGV, Emergency Fire Appliance driver tests and I'm EFAD monitor on my watch in the Fire service. I'd hope this would make me a good driver but unfortunately I still make mistakes.
