SCR Christmas Party Food Options

So, the Morpeth got back to me with some options for food, and I have set up a poll (biondino's suggestion) so that those attending can make a food choice.

This is a democracy, so despite the greg-centric ideas of some attendees, majority rules.

The room itself is £100, so between the current 20-odd attendees it's about £5 a head.

If you decide you want to come along, add your name to the list on the other thread.

Or maybe we could bring the list over here... I don't know...

Curry got my vote n'all. Damn, I'm hungry now.

By happy coincidence, I favour the curry option
Swim. Bike. Run. Yeah. That's what I used to do.

Mmm well I love curry, but have 3 issues:

1: In keeping with the SCR motto "MTFU" I fully expect at least half the curries to be suitably hot. I'm talking at least Madras hot here people.
2: Eating curry buffet style is gonna be interesting.
3: Who will provide the curry - hopefully Millbank Spice as oppose the Pub. Pub curries are seldom any good.

A big thanks to you (and your PA) for sorting this Lit.

    ooop.

<immediately open door to "battle of the largest cojones"-type arguments including claims such as "I once had a vindaloo that was so hot it burned a hole in the plate", "that's nothing, I once had a phal that was so hot ..." etc>

I think that's do-able. Anyone feel the need for more than madras-hot? Anyone who says 'I want a phall' will receive a free slap-o-gram.
2: Eating curry buffet style is gonna be interesting.

I agree. However, apparently there are tables.
3: Who will provide the curry - hopefully Millbank Spice as oppose the Pub. Pub curries are seldom any good.

Unfortunately, it's the pub - they wouldn't let us use Millbank Spice or other outside caterer - the manager maintains they do good curries (she would say that, I know), and that the chef is ex-curry-house... who knows... We could try one this friday!
A big thanks to you (and your PA) for sorting this Lit.

    No worries! (from Ruby too)

How great you have a PA called Ruby who's organising curries.

    (apologies to non-Londoners who won't have a clue what I'm talking about ;) )

Oh come on Biondino! We all know about you Cockneys and your slang. In fact, there are many regional variations. A Londener, for example, would be known as a 'Jim Delahunt' where Im from....

Question, and I suspect it is one that us less fortunate souls have been thinking but only tactless me has the testicular fortitude to ask.

LiT, what happens if you order £200+ worth of food for 20 or so people and only 5 people turn up, who gets lumped paying the bill?

Sounds like a lot of faith. A rule of mine when arranging catering for events. Whatever the number of those confirmed to attend - half the amount of food ordered.
    Food Chain number = 4

A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game

Build it and they will come.

Now come on who here couldn't eat £200 worth of curry on there own? now MTFU and stop worrying.

I'm 14 stones if I'm not eating food I'm chewing on somthing until I can eat food...

I just don't want to get lumped with a astronomical bill... SWMBO would kill me and feed me bike components for a month...

I've just had visions of LiT having to chase 20 or so cyclists along Millbank for money. A real scalp fest.

And you know she'd catch them all...

Maybe I am too naive, but if we rely on everyone keeping the list updated, and confim numbers to the Morpeth as close as possible to the day, then we should be ok?

    I'd rather be a realist

If we order food for 20+ people at £12 a head, on the day I'll be surprised if we don't pay closer to £24 each as not everyone will turn up for whatever reason.

DDD, I'm sure if people say they'll come they'll come. I'm happy to send LiT £20 or whatever in advance to ensure she's not out of pocket and I'm sure others will do likewise if asked.

That was very funny, gets my vote for funniest post of the week.

Fear not DDD sure a couple of people might not be able to make it that always happens and no doubt we'll confirm the list numbers before the event, it will be all good.

    think positive thoughts

  • DDD, don't be so negative! My god! Have a little faith in people.

Are you planning to duck out at the last minute? Hmmmm?

I'm sure that as long as people update the list if it turns out they can't attend, or they don't want food, (I know Litts has to leave early for some music thang for example) it will be fine.

Don't get me wrong I've got no qualms about paying my way, its just that if I'm one of four (for example) people there on the day and need to share a £200+ bill for food, I don't want to see LiT anymore out of pocket than me (even though she's mean to me  ) or anyone else but eqaully I don't want to have to stump up large sums of money...

Its a standard risk assessment, I don't think the issue I'm raising is unreasonable or irrational.

Those of you who I've met in person I like and I'm sure the rest are diamond. It doesn't absolve the validity of the question being asked. - Urgh! I'm in work mode...

  • Well I'll offer up my erm "services" to help remove any extra curry.......
I'm sure that we're not going to have that many people drop out that we'll be massively short, if anything I hope we can get the numbers up!

Also count me in for the MTFU curry :-)

  • Going on past experience of beers etc, when people from here have said they'll show up, they generally do.

I'm with Bassjunkie on this one, I definitely don't think we'll be in the situation where we have only 4 people, and hopefully we'll have more than the 20-odd now on the list!

Why so negative DDD? Bad experiences in the past? Been stood up?

I think that we are a friendly and reliable enough bunch on here that we should be ok...

If we aren't then I fully intend to:

    1: Steal LiT's panniers
2: Load them with as much curry as possible
    3: Leg it (without paying)

Forewarned is forearmed as they say.

:lol: With all this chat now I'm still not sure where I'm actually working on the 28th  I'll try and wangle a central London site, otherwise I might be a late arrival!

Oh it's OK, if it came to that I'd be helping rather than hindering... I'd also like to see Jash trying to leg it in his SPD-SLs with two pannier bags full of curry on his shoulders...
