surely I can't be the only person effected by this ?
This is happening several times an hour now whilst browsing this site. Whenever the chain reaction flood sale flash thingamibobby is activated it locks up my entire browser and pc .Mymouse then activates the water animation whenever the mouse moves on the page ?
Is that the intention ?
I can't close bikeradar down I cannot close any other tabbed sites down or firefox which is completly locked up.Gggggggggggg its making me flippin mad having to shut my pc down every few minutes.
Why don't BR get a professional to do the flash adverts properly ?

Which version of Firefox are you using? Which version of Flash player and which OS?0

Win XP pro (no SP) firefox 3.0.3. and just upgraded from v9 to v10 Adobe flash.
Hasn't froze up for a while .so maybe that has done the trick. Maybe there should be a public PC health warning on this site ?
I have 9x other forums tabbed and don't have any problem with any of them0 -
It's not just this site - I've seen it reported elsewhere.
The fact there's a large amount of people not reporting this issue also implies it's a bug local to yourself.0 -
You might be in need of Flashblock, a FF extension. This might not work with FF 3.0.3 so also get Nightly Tester Tools with overrides compatability issues with extensions and newer versions of FF.
Flashblock
Nightly Tester ToolsI've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Not getting lock ups but regardless of which browser I use the Chain Reaction advert is sending processor usage up to 99% Have had similar problems for years with Flash player and water effects. Even more annoying when you consider it could be done as a png animation for much less processor.Do Nellyphants count?
Commuter: FCN 9
Cheapo Roadie: FCN 5

Didn't want my first post to be a complaint, but so it goes. I've been having the same probem.
In FF I solved it by blocking the add with a Greasemonkey script as suggested by another member but at the moment Bikeradar isn't working properly in FF for me (homepage loads but everything else loads as blank). That means I'm stuck with IE at the moment and I can confirm that the CRC ad causes the same problems regardless of browser.
I'm using Vista by the way and have plenty (2.5GB) of RAM, Dual Core, good graphics card etc.

this is so annoying ( I want to swear a lot here )
Now when I use my mouse wheel to scroll down the recent posts it is actually scrolling the webpage URL
I have never seen this before .
Every click of the mouse wheel is putting a differant URL address in the address window weird.
Two more total lockups this week. One tonight . I have to reboot my router this time.

30 seconds to refresh this page to edit this post.
Now the water animation is always frozen until I move my mouse when it starts animating for as long as I move my mouse0 -

what page is this all happening on?
http://www.bikeradar.com/road ?
http://www.bikeradar.com/ ?
or is it the forum in general?
what add on are you running in FF?
I have not had issues on here but have on other sites but i do run a flash blocker."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

It happens at random on any page that has the flash animation.
Nothing in particular seems to start it off . I can be browsing other tabbed sites then click on BR and immediately get slow page refresh rates and hang ups especially when editing or uploading a post to the forum.
I am running FF 3.0.3. which I believe is the latest . I have no addons that i am aware of .0 -
ff 3.0.4 is the latest and try adding flash block and Add. block plus."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Tools --> Add ons --> Extensions. This will tll you what add ons/extensions you're using.
thanks . it seems I have 'cooliris' think I installed that when I had a problem with a new monitor recently .
I downloaded clearview also. In the end an update of my graphics drivers cured the definition problem.
Thanks for the suggestions I'll try tomorrow.0 -
The CRC flash animation put my CPU usage up to 98% almost as soon as I open Bike Radar.
I ad-blocked it and no more problems.
FF 3.0.40 -
You could also try the NoScript add-on for FF.
Blocks flash and java to provide a more secure browsing experience.
Well works nicely for me.

Are there any ad-block progs for Windows XP running IE (latest version)?A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0 -
After losing 2 fairly long and involved posts on submitting, I've installed IE7Pro and it's done the trick. SWF file are now blocked, CPU is now idling at 2% and things are running fine.
Sorry BR, but the ads had to go.I hadn't realised just how much the were affecting my browsing experience.A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0 -
my PC has locked up twice again today. Last one was a BSD and re-boot.
I am really getting pissed off at these stupid ads. They are going to force me off this forum soon and they have already totally alienated me from ever buying anythging at Chain Reaction . Just the appearance of their stupid advert gets my hackles rising. Unfortunate association really.
Can't believe there are not more members effected by this :evil:0 -

use Add block plus and you can lose them."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Besides I don't have this problem on any of the other 9 sites tabbed on my browser.0 -
This seems pretty crap that users have to work hard to modify their systems just so they can see an advert they have seen millions of times before. I have the same problem, the flash on this website locks everything up, my browser works fine everywhere else, I just hardly ever bother to come here any more its so boring and life is too short to becoem a firefox geek, so I am spending my time on other forums, and other review websites. Come on bike radar sort it out!0

same here - cpu use by iexplorer proces shoots up to max when I try to use the forum - not been on in a week cause it's not worth the risk of having to reboot my PC after opening a thread - they should be able to pull the ad without consequence from the sponser as it's causing demonstrable harm to the site.0

If you're affected by this could you visit:

And help us understand the problem by filling out some of your browser details.
Thanks for your assistance.0 -
We have spoken with Chain Reaction to make them aware that their advertisement may be causing performance problems for our users.
They were very helpful and more than happy to work with us to resolve this issue. Therefore they are now busy creating a new advertisement that should be with us shortly which will replace the "flood sale" advert.
I will continue to monitor the site and forum postings to ensure that this issue has been resolved to our users satisfaction.

This is interesting. I had removed BikeRadar from my list of usual sites. I didn't know what was wrong, but when I removed it, everything else ran ok.0
