Hi All I brought a Focus Cayo (08) this summer and so far I am very please although this is my first road bike so have little to compare to.
Anyway the only bad thing I have to complain about is the rear brake cable is routed inside the top tube which is fine except whenever I go over any bumps (i do try to avoid them but not always poss) the brake cable will rattle inside the top tube which is a little irritating is this normal and is there a cure?

Just guessing, but is there some slack you can take out of the cable via the adjusters on the calipers?

Thanks for your quick reply Alfablue,
I dont have my bike with me to check (at work) but as this is the brake cable it will need slack on it for steering or am i missunderstanding?

It needs slack on the cable outer, but I presume the portion inside the frame has no outer (I may be wrong), so there may be a tiny bit of slack in the actual cable that you can take out.
  • I think he means the outer cable is rattling on the inside of the tube as the Cayo has internal cables, I had a similar issue with an early alloy frame and resolved it with 2 cable ties. I attached one tie at the front end as the cable entered the hole, then pulled the cable at the rear so that it was taught within the frame, then attached the 2nd cable tie. It stopped the noise and isn't that noticeable as the holes are on the underside of the frame.

Bang on Tempestas, and your workaround sounds good to me as the cayo is black the ties wont be that noticable.

    Thanks for your help.
  • I have this problem on my Focus Cayo too. The hollow, plastic knocking sound drives me mad.
I'm gonna try the cable tie thing too.

Just makes the bike sound cheep IMO.
Funny thing is they routed the cable on the outside on 2007 models, whilst I understand the idea of trying to give the bike a cleaner look by routing the cable on the inside this is one improvement that may not be that in reality
