OK, I've had a good look on the forums and everyone seems pretty happy with theirs. As it's coming up to Christmas I thought I'll have me one of them babies to save my back!
I reckon I'll go for the Park Tools PCS-10 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=12702
I deffo want the clamp, so is it overkill or are there better alternatives and cheaper? I know there's loads on fleabay as well. The coyotee http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Coyote-Workshop-Maintenance-Bike-Stand-RRP-90_W0QQitemZ190264216196QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190264216196&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1298%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 caught my eye, it's generic so a few of you probably have this stand. A 100 quid is all I'm going up to mind . . . .
I have an Trek EX8 if that makes a difference?
Cheers all.

If you're looking for a bargain, this looks pretty decent - reduced for xmas by the looks of things.

i spent 4 quid on a fold down bike bracket from aldi. Bolted it to the side of my shed and it works perfectly.0

that one is OK but the plastic parts are cheap and not too good and it is not that stable.
I use it as a back up stand if my toppeak one is being used."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Hmmm, that Edinburgh Cycles one looks like the generic ebay one I posted, so a bit flimsy and unstable you say?
What kind of toppeak stand do you use nicklouse?
So the Park Tools stand is the favorite so far?Sink the eight ball. Buy the lady a drink. And nobody knows my name.0 -

I got the Halfords one... I forget the brand. £50 it was, the clamp's fully adjustable and only a little bit awkward to use. It's a 4-footer so not great on uneven ground, and a wee bit heavy- definately one for the home. t can be a tiny bit unsteady left/right with a heavy bike mounted high up, I sometimes weight the legs to help keep things together but that's just paranoia. A good buy, IMO.Uncompromising extremist0

If you want something good, look at the Kestrel stands (kestrelengineering.co.uk) they are the best workstands i've ever used, but they are expensive, perhaps just buying the clamp and mounting it onto your own frame is a better plan.0

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing! Seems to be the cheapest option as far as I'm concerned, and certainly will halp with the limited amount of spare space I have. Does a work stand really need the options that some of 'em come with? Especially at a (very) amateur level?Early Orange 5, Felt Z85, Scott Thicko, modified Giant full suss (both nicked)- beat-up single-speed rigid 1992 Saracen (scrapped), and various 2-wheelers with big engines0 -
a lot of peeps use this one from Merlin http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=produ ... egoryId=15 (which is another version of the ones above - made by\for Releigh) folds up nicely and fits in the car. Only problem I find is that the plastic jaws on the head aren't very good if you got a heavy biike..for instance it won't hold my meta by the seat post of the ground..0

I have gone for the Park Tools stand. After watching the video on the PT site I was impressed enough to know I should of stopped faffing around and ordered it ages ago
I'll share my thoughts on it after Christmas when I'm allowed to the damn thing!!Sink the eight ball. Buy the lady a drink. And nobody knows my name.0
