CRC Flood Sale

Brought a few bits from CRC's flood sale last week, good prices and most of it arrived ok.

I was however less than happy with the Botton Bracket I brought.
Arrived in a WET back with a small amount of water floating about in the bottom, the actual bracket was soaked and inside the main tube aswell as on the L/H bearing there was rust.

Surely they could of taken the time to perhaps clean it so it's at least dry, rather than storing and selling it wet, to point where rust is clearly visible.

Anyone else got any experience with these apparently 'full working order & undamaged' parts, which were mearly submerged for a short time but are like new.. ?

  • The clue is in the name. You would have more cause for complaint if it was smoke damaged

Right well say you own your own company like CRC and great customer service and quality parts are pretty high up on your priority list.
Fair enough the item got wet, but would you not at least dry it first rather than leaving the water all over it?
I wouldnt mind if it was a soft water area, but it's clearly a hard water area, so the water there would react with the metal compound that the BB is made of and cause corrosion within a very short space of time, as is the case with me.

So that then puts 90% of the other metal products they've sold, and are going to sell at risk of not so much being damaged, but damnright dangerous.
  • My reply was a little 'tongue in cheek' but in fairness they do state that their seven day no quibble return policy still applies.

As Boris says, return it to CRC explaining the condition it was received in and they will exchange ot for u no probs.

CRC are very good in this respect, ive ordered things and it turned out they were the wrong size for instance, all did was email them and explain the situation and they were more than than happy to exchange it no problems and send out the correct part.

Ive had worse service than that from my local LBS more than once over the years.

Ordered a £5 Sigma mutlitool in non Sigma packaging and when opening all the gadgets on the tool I could see spots of water and rust between the tyre lever and plastic body  but 1/2 hour on the radiator last night dried it out and a spurt of GT85 leaves it smelling nice. Was going to buy some flood damaged water but they'd sold out :(
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • That is one reason why i didnt buy anything like a chain or b.b

The comments "What did you expect" would be fair enough, except for this:

"The great news is that since then we have been sorting, cleaning and re-packaging all of the stock items that were affected and can now offer them for sale with BIG BIG DISCOUNTS. Most of the products on offer have simply had the outer packaging and instructions destroyed and at worst wont have suffered anything more than would happen on your first wet winter ride. "

"Terms of buying a Flood item.

What condition are the items in?
Almost all items in the sale are in a Near Perfect condition, any damage incurred was by water and silt from a local river combined with a period of damp storage conditions, this may have caused cosmetic water marking or some light corrosion on bare metals. All items have been fully inspected for damage and repackaged by ChainReactionCycles.com staff, You will not receive any of the original instructions or packaging. Items considered to have had excessive marking or damage have not been offered for sale."

The annoying thing at the mo is the stuff that is dirt cheap and sold out is still listed in the flood sale. :x Hopefully they'll sort this out next week.

Gah, so it was YOU! I was going to get some but in the time between spotting them and buying them some other **** bought them. You're dead meat sunshine

I was quite pleased, I'm resurrecting my old bike to build a commuter and discovered it needed new pads. Well, it probably needed new pads in about 1997 but there's no time like the present. I was just about to buy 2 cheap sets for £4 each then I found I could buy a complete pair of shimano acera v-brakes front and rear inc pads for £6 8) Mate of mine got a 2009 model Tora 302 solo air fork for £85.

Yeah, I'm a bit curious about that too.

But then, maybe the 2009 stock goes out to distributors early or something. Even if it turns out to be last year's it's still a great price though.

  • We got our 2009 fishers cat the other in sept.

I wonder if its just a way to get rid of a few cheap ones?
  • I wonder if they are going to list any other items or if the original list was it? There has been a few things that have popped up since it started but the list is dwindling now.

    I want some more bargains...

I'm pretty sure new stuff was added, I went right through the list a couple of days ago and I never noticed the rock shox stuff.

NC-17 Pro BB... I only brought it as it was cheap and I would use it on my trail bike when my current BB wears out.. I think I'll stick the one that's in there and stay Octalink on that bike, they seem to be cheaper BB's for when I need them!

I got three chains and two cassettes - all less than half price and slightly damp - but otherwise in perfectly good nick.

Also picked up a sealed DVD, two bottles of lube, carbon bars, spanners and some other things yet to arrive.

Only problem so far is one bottle of lube had top missing and replaced with sticky tape. I don;'t think I'll bother sending it back.
