It';s been at least two months since I last bought a bike so I've just been looking on ebay for a cheap runaround.

Found this....

red and white bike

...and have tried my best to find out but don't know whether it can take mudguards.

Does anyone know?

Cheers

PS this one I can see takes mudguards .......

very yellow bike

  • The first doesn't take mudguards I don't think.

I reckon you can crowbar mudguards onto just about anything, but it a hassle.

The second one is a Colnago. That's a very cool "runabout". Looks like it has old 8 speed shifters, which are bomb proof, and there are still boutique manufacturers making frames essentially identical to that one and charging a bomb for them. The rest of the parts don't look great, but (a) its a winter bike and (b) the frame is worth hanging more modern bits off once they wear out.

Definitely have a stab at the Colnago. It will be a great ride. Not as positive as your Lemond, but more comfortable and stable.

Bidding might get a bit mental for it though.

That Yellow bike isn't a Colnago. It's just had Colnago stickers stuck on it.

    Oh yes - scrolled down.
    Okay - a Pug. France's Raleigh.

Not so hot. Still, other than the slight "Msport stickers on a Fiesta" issues, its probably a better bet than the Specialized

I would have thought the Allez would take guards.

The front shot shows the additional holes for the supports to secure to:
    40aa_1.JPG

You've got the bar near the bottom bracket, so if you buy SKS guards they come with a variety of fitments, and the top bit will use the same fitment as the brakes.

Can't see the front, but again you'll use the bolt where the brakes are secured, and as long as it has that extra securing point down the bottom of the forks, jobs a goodun.

This is a fairly old bike by the looks of it, but I'm pretty sure I have heard of more recent Allez's being used as commuters with full guards.

Not convinced this one is worth the money it's going for though.

Just FYI, a Trek 1000 can defo take full guards.

  • I don't think those are eyelets. I am about 90% sure that is just the attachment between the chainstays and seatstays.

Posting links to live e.bay bids!?!?!? Forum could drop into meltdown, when you discover you have entered into a bidding frenzy, with some character from the forum who has totally "dissed" (so down with the kids, eh!?) the aforementioned...

Think you would be struggling with clearance for the Allez Sport, says I. 54 being the right size frame for me! Doh. It does look the better of the 2 though.

I'm not in the market to buy one just at the mo - a bit of research. If I had my eye on sth I wouldn't tell you lot

Maybe you should get Jason Queally's time trial bike.

The track bike finishing on the 14th looks quite nice. Apologies to anyone who is bidding on this and wanted to keep it a bit of a secret...

  • You could try using clip on razor guards or race blades they work reasonably well and fit most road bikes regardless of eyelets - ~30 quid I think.

I have an Allez Elite with no eyelets & use the Halfords version of race blades. Works fine.
    Cheers :)

Linsen, if you hark back to my post on mudguards a while ago (that you hijacked!) you would be reminded of my woes. the allez won't take guards unless you want to faff around with p-clips and such.
I have carbon look race blades on mine now... which makes me FAST :D

    So thats a NO. :!:

"no soy segura"? Estoy means "I am (in this place)", if I remember rightly, and you're a girl so the adjective has to be feminine, right?

Ooh, look at me, teaching the modern languages teacher modern languages. I fully expect this one to come back and slap me in the face despite my A in Spanish GCSE in 1990)
