Aching legs

Hi all,

Has anyone else been suffering from legs that have suddenly started to ache?

I have no idea of the cause; the temperature, maybe? I have stopped eating porridge in the morning and now have fruit, nuts, and a whey protein drink which really should been even better than oats, water and honey...

It's about 8 miles a day with building site work in between but I've been doing it for months but my legs have just given up recently. It's never got the stage where I breeze up the hill I work on, but the flats are normally alright!

You are more likely to hurt your muscles when its cold, so take it easy in the morning, give yourself enough time to just spin on the way in.
Oh and if you're slowly pedalling a big gear, don't, because that can make your legs and/or back ache unnecessarily.

Take a couple of days off if I were you. Also, its good to have something solid, not just a drink, re. your breakfast.
    Legs, lungs and lycra.

  • Hello - I don't have aching legs but you could try this:

Have you recently started a new relationship? Because, um, intimacy can use muscles you may not usually use and then you get on a bike and suddenly you're stiff in unexpected places...

Only you would come up with that theory (and write it), Rubio!

Actually I can think of several people who would suggest something like that and write it in much less eloquent terms

I used to suffer from achylegs until I discovered the power of hamstring stretches

    http://www.thefitmap.co.uk/exercise/gui ... /index.htm

there are others you can do but they do clear your legs pretty quickly.

  • I think a few stretches are very beneficial and i try to warm up before my commute. I suffered with very achy legs last week, but i put it down to 5 days of commuting @ 63 miles and 2 portions of 5 a side football.

I'd absolutely no power this morning, and, coupled with the wind that was nearly blowing me back up the hill, that didn't make for a pleasant ride in.

It was rather cold this morning, but for now I'm putting it down to cycling four days last week (new for me) and not having much rest at the weekend. I'm concerned though that Wife's so-called "flu" has jumped the species barrier and I'm sickening for Man Flu.
Today is a good day to ride

Same here, though i spent all yesterday recovering from the after effects of mixing too many different alcoholic beverages on sat night.. more fool me i know.

This morning was mild and not very windy, i just didn't feel up for it as much as usual

it sounds like your body is telling you that you need a rest. Especially if the aches resemble those you get when you have the flu and all you become all full of lactic acid.

sometimes you need to just not cycle for a while. I learned that the hard way.
