Threat to Mountain Rescue Teams

Don't know if this is the best place to post this...... Found this item on the Trailquest website & forum (copied & pasted below) that volunteer rescue services may have to pay for radio licences. As they are funded through charitable donations, this is a cost that they should surely be exempt from. Thought you guys would be interested in supporting the petition (sorry if you have also seen this elsewhere!) :
Mountain Rescue
You never know when you might need them. For anyone who thinks Mountain Rescue Teams are something worth protecting, there's a petition against charges they may have to pay for using radios.
It appears that Ofcom may drastically increase the amounts that the RNLI and Mountain Rescue Teams have to pay to use radios. There is a petition at Number 10 Downing Street, on the link below, against such charging of volunteer teams should you wish to protect the MR from such charges.
Please don't put it off - do it now!

As I'm in the process of joining the RNLI, it's only fair I should sign.
Passee on to other crew members too.0 -
I thought this had recently been quashed? I'm sure I read it somewhere a couple of weeks ago...
Edit: Found it here http://www.grough.co.uk/view/2008/10/21/ofcom-we-wont-charge-mountain-rescue-teams/0 -
I've signed it but how come it only mentions the Mountain Rescue?
Quote: We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Protect Mountain Rescue Services from paying licence fees for using VHF radio frequencies.
Surely if the Mountain Rescue and the Coastguard had a joint petition it would get more 'signatures' and help both orginisations.
I'm much more likely to use the Mountain Rescue but would also like to support the Coastguard.
Anyone know if they have a seperate petition I could sign?0 -

Signed gladly, whats next though, asking ambulance crews to buy their own ambulance???
With this govenment it wouldnt surprise me, they'd tax fresh air if they could figure out how to make it work  :x0 -
Well, the point seems to be that they're not neccesarily being asked to pay more at all... No point getting all worked up about this until the facts are laid out. The response is pretty clear and concise for once.Uncompromising extremist0

Signed anyway.
Not quite so important maybe, but I believe a lot of theatres are also in the firing line from this as well as they use radio mikes and may have to pay for a licence in future.
If this government had it's way it'd tax / licence air :evil:It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
Signed - and passed on to other walkers and climbers0
