Shimano hub problem

I stripped a front Shimano hub that had been clicking. The bearing cups in the wheel were fine, as was one cone, but one cone had a single small pit. I rebuilt the hub with new ball bearings and fresh grease. If I run it like this for a few months, is damage to the actual bearing cups in the wheel likely when the ball bearings wear? (as they inevitably will), I've heard that wear on the cups is uncommon as they are harder than the cones and balls.

I know, it was a bit of a silly question. Running it like that is risking damaging the races, whatever was I thinking. I'll buy a new hub and strip the parts from that.

what hub is it? some have harder races than others.

why not just get a new cone?

9mm Shimano cones can be picked up for a quid a piece.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
