After 4 months of cycling I have achieved my first weight goal, I am now sub 80kg!

My next target it 77.5 by Christmas and 75 by next feb. Hopefully, I won't be so slow uphill!

Also, I have calculated my FCN as 12...although I have no idea what that actually means.

Why? Are you anorexic? Not comfortable? A model?

    Yep, I'm aiming for a childlike 12st... hmm :P

  • if you give up cycling for a month you'll probably reach your desired weight. Once you lose your muscle mass.

12 stone sounds very light for someone 6ft tall. Sounds about right the way you are now.

Just make sure you don't change your mind when you hit 12 stone and fancy yourself as an 11 stone waif.

    Ah! The truth comes out!

Your must be working out like fecking crazy - I am ex Rugby and Rower (they often go hand in hand). However, I am on 5ft 11in (hence the stroke or 2 seat) and have been on 90kg throughout my 10 years of rowing, cycle racing and triathlon.....but I won't give up the wine/beer/curry for no one...never! I am comfy in my weight and don't give a frig about the *Hollywood* weight thing......yeah, like I know any celebs!

Is 12st healthy and maintainable? Has a doctor ordered you to lose weight?

I am 6 foot 1inch and 10 and a half stone, I don't think 12 stone is particularly light it sounds about average.

Comes down to age too - I am 33....
  • 12 stone sounds like a perfectly acceptable weight for someone 6ft tall to me. But then, I'm in the 'seriously underweight, but always have been, so you're just build like that' category, and my perspective may be a little biased. I've never been over 10.5 stone, (I'm 6'4") and that was when I was eating four meals a day.

thats probably your natural build though. If you were, say 3 or 4 stone more and were aiming to lose enough weight to get to 10. 5 stone, then I think it wouldn't be normal.

I'd say 12 to 13 is normal weight for someone of that height. I'm that height and am about 12'10. I have no desire to be any lighter (I couldn't see where I'd lose it from anyway without letting muscle go to waste - in which case I'd have less weight to lug up a mountain, but not the muscle to do the lugging - vicious circle really!).

Well in my rugby/rowing prime I was 85 of lean muscle, and probably would have hit 90 if I'd kept going for my creatine muscle madness. For those interested I was a no.7 on a pitch and about the same in a boat.
    I have a mate who's 5'11" and 59kg?! Madness.
It does depend on your build, and I'm quite broad and certainly not a waif. At the moment I still have a smidgeon of pointless cutaneous fat, and I won't be losing too much internal fat until I get super lean for the Etape next year. Its good to have a bit over winter to keep you warm and healthy.

I'm 6'2 and about 12 st 3lbs or 1.80m and 78 kg. I've always thought I was pretty skinny and would love to cary a bit more muscle but even solid protein drinks didn't make me gain any weight.

My brother in law rides pro-road and he's 5'11 and about 65kg he was a lightweight rower... I think he's seriously thin to be honest but then that's his job.

d36, I reckon if you got down to 75 you'd look a bit on the thin side to be honest so I wouldn't worry working too hard on it..accept you body as it is, at your age it takes a lot of hard work to make it do anything it doesn't really want to.

    BTW I'm 35

I'm 5'9 and almost 13 stone. But I can leg press more than all the guys at the gym (I do the whole stack with an extra weight on top :P ).

I'd love to say all the weight is muscle rather than fat, but that would be a complete and utter lie.

Haha, I do enjoy watching people on the leg press and then going over and throw some serious weight around. Not the whole stack though, how much are you lifting? you beast you.

It is for a rower. We carry around loads of strange mucles in the back that are really not very useful for anything other than rowing.

Besides, give yourself another 12-15 years and I guarantee that you won't be 10 1/2 stone.

Give yourself 25 years and you wont be 6'1" either.

Haha, rugby is worse for your back than rowing. At least if you're doing it right. I'll probably do some rowing alongside cycling later on, but the rugby has probably ended. I've not been seriously injured, but a few more years of smashing into people would probably cause something, so maybe its for the best.

Agree on rugby being harder on you generally - but I went after rowing big time, although I have regressed some points due to lack of competitive rowing recently (I now coach womens crews), I was rowing at Elite level (Black Sheep + CoBRC) and Sculling at Senior 2 - Eventually, your back or shoulders just cannot take it. Most of my old crew have now had back ops or had to give up. Rowing is mostly off the legs and from the waist, but you back is involved in a big way.....and the wear and tear will get you. Good luck with the weight loss though - but don't fecking starve yourself for gods sake!!

Thats a good number, depending on your form... leg press is soo easy to cheat ... What do you squat? to below parallel. ass to grass baby...

Your gym must be full of pansies. I used to leg press 250KG+ knees to chest, squatted 160kg for triples ass to grass and I was no. where. near. the strongest in my gym.

I do cheat - I use the weight machine rather than free weights, and I don't do any squats (I'm a laydee :P ). I don't use the free weights area at all as it's full of posey blokes, and I'd rather not stare at myself in a mirror for hours on end...
