Have been riding my Trek fuel ex 8 for the last couple of weeks only to realise the bontrager jones xr tyres are sh1t :(

Been deciding whether to go for the old favourite Panaracer fire XC pros with inner tubes or go wild and opt for the Bontrager mud x tubeless ready tyres fitted onto the stock Bontrager wheels.

I'm a tad confused about exactly what I'd need to do this - read some instructions mentioning sealant, rim strips, spoke tape etc. Had a look at some tubeless kits costing £50 http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/No_Tu ... 360027629/ Is this what I need?

With tyres and tubeless kit looking at almost £100 and the ball ache of attempting the tubeless mission, should I just go for a pair of Panaracers for £45 :?:

  • Go tubeless - no more pich flats, no more struggling at the side of the trail whilst your mate either moan or p*ss off down the hill !.
Its real easy, get Stans, try justridingalong website - tubeless specialists.

In a kit you get rim strip with built in valve, spoke tape and latex fluid - sealant.
Fit the tape over the spoke tops or keep your rim strip if you cant feel the spoke heads underneath. Fit the rubber rim strip around the rim.
Put tyre on as you normally would but placing sealant in the tyre before completely putting on the rim.
With track pump or compressed air, inflate throught the valve as normal.Use soapy water around the tyre bead in bucket loads, shake the wheel once inflated to move the sealant around within and watch the air bubbles through the soapy water. Once the latex works, the bubbles will stop and you are tubeless.
Tyres - if you use single ply tryes at low pressure on the trails whilst tubeless the walls WILL fail in time.
I use dual ply walled tyres - Maxxis, but these are heavy, real heavy.
Try using LUST tyres, they are lighter than dual ply, heavier than XC tyres but they have slightly reinforced walls to prevent wall failure when using low pressure.

Check out justridingalong wedsite for all details or Stans website for a video of how to fit Stans tubless systems.

Do it, you wont regret it - it really is that simple. Been tubless for 2 years, been to Wales, Scotland and Spain without having to take one single tyre off for a flat !
