Numb Toes

Hi
I recently bought a roadbike - my first one - and it came with spds. I therefore bought some specialised bg sport shoes. They seem to fit well however everytime I come back from a ride my toes are numb. I wouldn't have thought it had anything to do with the cold. Any ideas?
Thanks
Richard

Why nothing to do with the cold?
I use the same shoes - and my toes get very chilly. After all - cold air blowing on your foot for an hour plus is bound to chill them. I use Pro tarmac shoe covers, no more cold toes, but I definately wouldn't cycle in just the shoes alone - in any temperature below 10'C.0 -

Thanks for your reply
I hadn't thought it was the cold but I will try some covers.

Maybe try changing the cleat position a fraction on the shoe. I find if there is too much pressure just behind the ball of my foot, a couple of my toes go numb. May be nothing to do with the temperature at all. Could also be that the shoes ar just done up too tight?0

Rather than spend money on covers, try a second pair of socks. If that solves your problem, then get covers. I sometimes wear a second pair of socks to keep my feet warm(ish)jedster wrote:Just off to contemplate my own mortality and inevitable descent into decrepedness.

I have this problem - and have found a cure of sorts by designing my own shoe insert. Although I really like the Specialized BG shoes - Having scoured the message boards for the last few months - a lot of people report this problem , with these shoes0

can i throw another suggestion in ?
after suffering ( and at times it was ) this issue for years , spending far to much money that i care to recall on new shoes ,pedals , saddles etc ....i came accros this possibitly by accident .
i went to see a sports physio about an old knee injury ( thats not the problem ) and in passing mentioned this . when the physio checked out my feet, she found that the ligaments in the toe area were very slack /tight ( cant really remember now im typing it ! )..this was resulting in the toe/arch area of my foot becoming almost " flat footed " when the foot was in a cycling shoe position ( just put your toes on floor and raise heels slighty to imagine what i mean )
further tests suggested that this was reducing the blood flow to my toes and causing the numb toe ( and also explained why , when i " crunched" my toes up inside the shoe it alleviated the feeling temporarily )
as i result of this ....and dont laugh ..... i bought some odd looking foam pads from boots ( i think they were sold with the corn plasters and stuff( that slip over your middle toe and provide a padded " lift " to the ball of the foot .
massive reduction in the problem..( not cured in full i admit .....byt now that i know what it is , i oddly enough have learned to live with it better ! )
also recommened ........much to my girlfriends amusement ....is those gel party feet shoe things !! just steal them when she isnt looking ! lol
hope this helps !0
