Its absolutely crazy .No sooner have we got rid of the annoying Army video, now we have six simultaneous videos every time you logon to the home page ?
I tried at work and it was taking 1.5 minutes + to load the home page and upwards of a minute to refresh or load a forum page.?  this is craaaaaaaazy.

Ok my works PC is a tad slow at the best of times but I'm browsing at home now and I have 1.5 Gb of memory and a fast AMD 2.6 Ghz proc and its still like stirring treackle !

Someone needs to try loading these pages from an independant PC through another ISP on a basic PC like most of us have. It might load all right from a station on your server but then you are hosting the site

Hmm, seems fine to me, 1 or 2 secs at most to download the front page.

wow it suddenly got fast again ?

I think it must have somrthing to do with my cookie settings ? I changed the setting to accept all and bingo its like lightning now.

I tried accessing the homepage from here 5 minutes ago and my browser completely locked up. I had to shut down and re-boot

Wonder what that was all about ?

    No

I don't think it is you. I've seen widely varying download speed both at work and home for BR. Sometimes I get instantaneous page loads, other times I end up giving up as the forum just doesn't respond. Both PC's are fairly powerful and I don't think it's connection related as I don't have the same issues for example on the BBC news website at the same time.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

I had another lock up earlier this week.

I'm convinced it is to do with the flash animation on the BR site. It may well be causing a conflict with Firefox.

As there is no other site that is or has ever caused this problem I think it is not unreasonable to place the blame firmly with BR

I get it too and I have a super fast computer.

amd athlon 4400+ desktop with 3gb ram

and a pentium t8300 penryn processor which is second from the top behing the quad core obviously.

Its prob the servers, they are very slow and cant handle the ads and the mass's who use this site, and upgrade is prob due, and cut down on ads.

The mags a really expensive at 4.00 each so surley they dont need that much ad space and also they have got video graphics on the ads which slows things down so much.

But I guess the IT dept can only answer this.

It certainlt can't be a PC hardware issue . I am beginning to wonder if it isn't something to do with javascript actually. I tried to run trendvirus today and was required to download javascript first. It wouldn't install because of some conflict or other so I'm going to try resolve my javascript problem

Tonight my PC has locked up twice in half an hour but only when I've been on this site. I have a total of 10 sites on this tabbed browser and none of the otheres have ever given the slightest problem.

Until it becomes a significant issue with lots of forum users I doubt we'll get any assistance from BR

You just need to refresh all the time, and some times it does not connect saying time out.

    Gots to be the servers.

When I say all the time maybe 2-3 times a week, not all the time

M.Cole - did this go anywhere, there are now numerous threads here about the website locking up people's PC's and flash ads causing problems. I can garauntee that the dev guys will say, "well it works fine here" but tht is no kind of answer to the people who are just going to vote with their fingers.
  • Ok the tech nerds are aware of this, Matt did pass it on before, but we couldn't recreate the problem in our browser tests. We're going to see what other options we have. Pulling ad's isn't straightforward, after all they play a key roll in keeping sites like us going.

In the meantime, if you're still affected could you pop a note in this thread saying what browser you're using (IE6, IE7, FF2, FF3 etc) and which version of flash you have installed. - Right click over the chain reaction ad and it will say 'about flash player 9/ 10' etc.

If you're really keen, could you also mention what the banner ad at the top of the site is showing? It varies, so we don't know what you're seeing there.

Thanks in advance for posting. It's equally frustrating for us to know there is a problem with parts of the site.

I've not used this site or the forum for the past 2x weeks because problems had become so severe that it required me to pull the mains plug out of my PC to reboot. Not good! My PC was crashing every time I logged into BR (one of 10 sites on my tabbed browser)

    I use Firefox
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3
Windows xp Pro. no service packs
    Adobe flash 10,0,12,36 installed

Banner.... Total film welcome to the movies.
  • We have spoken with Chain Reaction to make them aware that their advertisement may be causing performance problems for our users.

They were very helpful and more than happy to work with us to resolve this issue. Therefore they are now busy creating a new advertisement that should be with us shortly which will replace the "flood sale" advert.

I will continue to monitor the site and forum postings to ensure that this issue has been resolved to our users satisfaction.
