Would this be ok to ride on the road?

Managed to burn a small hole in the side of my chainstay with my rear tyre a couple of months ago.

Do you think this would be safe to use as a road hack?

Were you by any chance running metal tyres at the time!?!?!?!?
  • Kenda bluegrooves with a loose rear hub! Didn't feel a thing and noticed that at the end of a 30 mile ride.

I'm thinking about singlespeeding it but I've heard elsewhere that may not be a good idea because of the extra stress.
  • Am i right in thinking thats on the driveside chainstay, if it is, i'd look for a new frame!

    Better safe than sorry

if you scroll the pictures you will see it is not the drive side.

    Steel frame?

i would get a spot of weld on it and slap some paint on and it will be fine as a Pub bike.

  • just ride it! whats the worst thats going to happen. i will crack and come off then u stop and decide wether its ok to get you home or not. if not walk! i dont see why people get so worried about little things like this (no offence to anybody) i rode a cracked bmx frame for a month as i would normally and nothing happened. the cracks just got slightly bigger so i deceided then it was time for a new frame.

  • No its on the non drive side, and I kind of agree with downhillholty. I'm getting a Cotic frame as replacement, so this would just be a road hack for fitness during the week.

Well if you agree with downhillholty then go for it.

Be sure to let us know the procedure for extracting a saddle from your arse when it snaps though!!

If your feeling even half sensible get someone that can weld to put a spot on it for you.
