Lance on a girls bike...?

Amongst all this talk about LA's comeback, I am curious to see what kind of bike he will ride. After the total revamp of the Madone following his retirement, it hardly resembles the machines he used to ride. It was as if Trek had waited to make any changes until he retired. Now he's back, what happens?

He made those infamous comments about Big Jan riding a "girls bike" as it had a sloping top tube and always preferred his bikes to be of the traditional type. Do we think he will embrace the new dawn and ride the new madone? or will he have something else up his sleeve? will he use the same old trusty retro saddle or something a bit more modern? will he still use the downtube shifter on the left hand side in the mountains? And what about his clothes? still Nike all over or has that reached a natural conclusion when Trek and Nike parted company?

I guess time will tell...

He's already said he likes the new Madone, at the launch.

Whether or not he does actually prefer it is another thing.

At this reat - I predict by 2010 - it will be like he's cycling in longs all of the time. No wonder he started the black sock idea.

As Lancey-pansey was dropping King Kelly's name in the thread about the fight with Linus... I reckon we could see him coming back with toe clips and straps, and wool shorts to match his dumb socks...

School boy error there by the Big Man, thought we could have at least one thread about cycling without the vitriol...

Lance may be a doper, he may be American, he may even not be a very nice bloke but he is THE biggest star in cycling (by far the most famous cyclist in the world) and will therefore prompt debate.

I wasn't asking about his persona, just his bike.

For what it's worth I WILL be interested in what he rides. I quite like bikes, hence the reason I look at this forum...

    Ta.
  • Apologies to all for vitriol, I'm just fed up of the LA publicity machine and its not even the TDU yet.

Plus I have had a crap day, but thats no excuse for cursewords like toss...

I wear black socks to work, I wore black socks to school. So when I decide that I want to think I'm fast, I wear white socks!
In your defence, cycling in black socks is not as bad as working in white socks (spanish waiter syndrome).
    Legs, lungs and lycra.

I think it's the length that's the problem. The mid-shin sock is not a good look!

I have some black socks too for cycling - I dont think theres a problem - but I remember everyone kicking off when Lance and Hincapie wore them.

    Long socks are just odd.

    your kidding...

cycling in black socks is just about permissable if they are trainer liners sub ankle

The geometry of the Madone's remains the same, old and new. He's been on the new version since its release so nothing new there.

The new Madone's are very much like the Lemond Carbon. On the other hand, previous Trek's were very much like the Klein's Quantum.

I would have liked to see Trek retain their trademark square shape. That shape has remained Trek's staple all through the 80's and 90's till 2007. If one wanted a compact frame, then they would have opted for a Lemond.

There isn't going to be any place to hang that downtube shifter anymore. Bosses are trendily being eliminated on many frames nowadays.

Black cycling socks seem to have gone in and out of fashion(more out than in) since at least the 70's. To assure yourself that you will always be ultra cool I suggest that when white is in wear black and vice versa. This is the sign of a true sock professional. Better yet wear one of each color and for the ultimate wear two different cycling shoes.
