Bit random I know, but he's a name I was hearing throughout the Grand Tours this year, always there or there abouts.

Had a decent run in the grand tours this year. Giro 3rd, TdF 27th (a few kicked out since, and I think he had a massively depleted team for a lot of the race), and Vuelta 10th.

What do people think his chances are on improving on those for next year, especially the Giro?
I tried looking to see where his rank was on that rianking website, but I couldn't find the web address  .

There or thereabouts is where he'll probably stay.

He's 35 next year so probably can't get much better. Plus Cunego will be riding the Giro next year, so Bruseghin will be back in his role as super domestique.

Yes I did see that he wasn't youthful, so I suppose if he was likely to do something it'll be this coming season or not at all. Not a bad man to have to lead Cunego up the climbs.

He's been the Eye-talian TT champ before IIRC, and I've picked him in the PTP for TT's on the back of it.

BTW, the website you're after is

  • Nice to see a diverse thread!
"Bruiser" is getting a bit long in the tooth, I would say. His Giro podium, this year, will probably be the crowning glory of his career.
Still, it was his first real opportunity as a non-domestique and he took it.
An old fashioned workhorse; big engine, someone who can ride a whole season. Rare indeed, these days.
Could do with a few more of his ilk.

thanks afx, now added to favourites.

Blazing - that's why I decided to start the thread, something a bit different to the usual recent stuff.

I guess I've come to quite like Bruseghin, dunno why, you just seem to see him there or there abouts throughout grand tours, without doing anything spectacular (except for some very useful time trialling), but also rarely seeming to have a really bad day.

I know Im going to get slammed for this... but in my opinion there is something fishy with this guy.... Pro for 11 years, a handful of wins in TTs but nothing else major. His other stage race placings are nothing fantastic... Then this year, at the youthful age of 35, he rides like he has a mini-motor in his bottom bracket....

    and...

    and...

he rides for .... Lampre

I won't slam you anything is possible. I know not all the bad guys will have been caught by now, but surely there can't be many more who think they could get away with it, :? - perhaps this is me being naive/hopeful. And will Lampre riders have been targetted a little more this year after missing a team test through being at the wrong restaurant to where they said they would be earlier in the season?

It's not quite the first season he's done well, this was his 3rd top ten Giro finish, so he's not exactly come out of nowhere.

Ooh, random Marzio Bruseghin fact I just remembered: doesn't he own a donkey sanctuary or something?

Anyone who owns a donkey sanctuary can't be bad in my books.

Yes, it's situated on his back wheel. It's called "The Little Prince Stable".

There was an interview with him in Bicisport this year, with plenty of pics with him and the donkeys.Protrayed as a man of the land type.Shooting gear, tractors, etc. Not your Procycling/Cycle Sport usual fare, the Pozzato shoot anyone.

On a different slant. His Giro result may be suspect but he is so thin for a guy his size.I know 99.9% of pro's are anyway. But he was so lean in his civies in comparison to the rest of the Italian Team(bar Bososio) in Varese.

I think if he worked on loosing a bit of weight he could be even better in the GC's. Just my 2 cents.
Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.
