Blessed tubes?

I've just spent most of today stripping (almost all the way) and rebuilding the missus' scrapyard find, a 1983 Raleigh Caprice. The tyres were shot, as it had obviously spent time sat on deflated tubes. The brake pads looked like they'd never been changed, and the rear bulb of the built-in dynamo-based light system had blown. But that's all that was out of sorts.
I stripped the frame and wheels, and for the heck of it checked the tubes with the old 'bucket of water' routine: didn't find any bubble streams. There were no puncture repair patches either. In fact, all I did find was the name 'Raleigh', and a manufacture date: November 1983
I've rebuilt the bike with the old tubes, and unless there's a slow leak (which of course would not have shown up yet) it appears that these tubes have been blessed by the God(s). Does anyone else have a similarly fortuitous tale at avoiding the puncture fairy?
