Disc brake conversion / adapter

I have a 2000 model SC Chameleon, i plan to fit disc brakes & require some sort of mount for the rear caliper. Santa cruz do offer a conversion kit which hangs off the rear dropout (upside down in comparsion to a disc ready bike) + it requires minor modifications to the dropout area (filing & drilling) which i dont particularly wanna do unless i have no choice so obviously i m looking into alternatives before i attempt the dreaded !
Any suggestions of advise would be nice.
A2Z mount is a no due to the square chainstays.
