Lance did in 2004 and 2005, even though he didn't win the Prologue on either occasion.

David Millar wore it for stage 1 in 2003.

In 2006 it was Hincapie.

There must be some rule at work here which my brain cannot compute.

The winner of the prologue is awared all the leaders jerseys but obviously he doesn't want to wear them all. So they are given to the second and third rider in the prologue to wear.

Ta very much. Somebody bought yer actual Lance's 2005 green jacket on ebay today for £256. It even has his name on the collar and his initials stamped on the laundry label. Although I'm one of the leading Lance haters here (I hope) I would LOVE to have that jacket.

When a rider gets a jersey on the podium, he is actually awarded a box of them as souvenirs and gifts to team mates and sponsors. He also signs a few jerseys which are given to the jersey sponsors and a couple for local bigwigs like the local mayor or a visiting government minister. So for the 4 jerseys awarded every day, I'd say there are actually over 100 handed out per day. They are not so exclusive after all.

Aaah sometimes they have put a small hill in - just to get the polka dot awarded. I know they did that a few years back and one of the sprinters had got wise to this - so he just sprinted full bore up the timed section - just to get to wear the polka dot jersey for a few stages. V clever.

I believe you actually get 3 awarded to you for every day you wear a jersey. These include whatever you have to waer yourself. The ones for local dignitaries are, I presume, extra to this.

They also get both lined and unlined jackets, according to a bloke who deals in such things. A lined Lance green jacket goes for 300, a yellow one 600. The one in the pics above is unlined , so it went for a piffling £256.

Lance green ones are (obviously) much rarer than yellow ones, so I'm trying to convince myself they're a bargain.. I really like the colour, especially with the PMU logos and the Disco panel. Maybe I could obtain one for Xmas - it would be a great incentive to get rid of my belly.

It was Marcel Wust of Procycling Bike Test fame, 2001 maybe??

Definitely was - thanks for that as was wracking my brain - he lost an eye not long after in a terrible crash. I was at the prologue and stage 1 that year, it was great seeing a sprinter roll out in the spots.

Thats the chappy - always seems a nice bloke in the bike tests - not that any bike seems much different from the others.

Hmmm. So a jacket and a jersey are the same thing? Getting dressed must be quite challenging for you.

Yeah but Lancey pansey would have sent his mam down to the merchandise van to buy the exact same replica's that any joe can buy and then his mam would have ironed on/screen printed the team logo's so that Lansey-pansey/disco team can circulate the jersey's to "lucky" fans and sponsors.....

Actually Lansey pansey's mam didnt probably buy them as Lansey-pansey would have got them free from Nike (his sponsor)... His mam would have just stitched in his name hahaha :P

I dont think I've ever seen a 'yellow jacket' ? Its always been jerseys in the display cases I've seen anyway ? Why give out a jacket ? Does he wear it round town after the race ?

Jackets are what you wear when it's cold. See the pics of the green jacket in this thread. Now imagine a yellow one.

Look, I even found you a picture. Here's Valverde taking off his yellow jacket. He's wearing a yellow jersey underneath.

I think that's just a long sleeve jersey. Same fabric as the jersey, just with a full zip and long sleeves.

They make jackets too. Instead of pockets they have slots through which you can reach your jersey pockets. Some are lined, some aren't. Valverde's one looks to me like a jacket because the material's a little thicker. But it's hard to tell from the photo.

Here's the reverse of the green jacket:

    bunch of wasters ,,, all!

its a good peice of memrobelia .. stop being so bitchy .. if it was Cav's jacket it would be treated as goldust on here ... bear in mind the last tour rider who won stages at will ... with seemingly no effort!!!
  • Didn't Dave Z say that when he got the Yellow Jersey in 2005 he got some for free then he had to buy any extras (for his family etc) for a ridiculous price?

It was in the interview with him and Dave M in procycling just before the Tour in (i think) 2007, if someone wants to research.
