I got some thread locker from a motor bike shop recently, might be of some help if your LBS doesn't stock what you are looking for.

Sounds though like the threads have gone on the bolts or th plate they go into, so you might be well off just buying some new ones and replacing the plate inside your shoe as well (I haven't read the full thread so am assuming you have SPD cleats like I have on my shoes)

Assuming the plate isn't permanently built into the sole, in which case:

    New shoes..

    New shoes..

    New shoes..

    New shoes..

    New shoes..

  • I'm going to replace bolt the second, and if that doesn't work then it's loctite all the way.

    NO

    NO NEW SHOES...

    Stop it.

Why don't you just take them to the pub with you?

    LIT

Are you tightening the bolt up with one of the little cycle tool kits?

You need proper allen keys, pref the long ones to get enough torque on it.

Thanks redvee! I appreciate the offer, but I don't know if I can change the plates in my shoes, unless by plates you mean the outside bits...? If they're on the inside how would I find out if they're changeable...?

The plates are usually removable from under the insole, might be lightly glued down.

I've read grease is better than loctite, it allows you to screw them in tighter as it greases the thread.

I use grease, no problems, even with grease they can be hard to remove, allen heads are easily rounded, I would shy away from threadlock unless it was a desperate situation - which it may be.
