That bl**dy fairy visited me on my way to work this morning- a nice bite into inner tube on REAR wheel.

No probs- not had one for a while, so quickly remove old tube, check tyre & remove debris. fit new tube & inflate. Back on way relatively quickly.

20-30 yards later she has another bite at rear wheel. Thought I'd not removed previous debris, but no, it is new debris, in a different place.

Whats the odds on that happening?

    Fella,

I had 3 tubes go in one morning (rear wheel) 2 weeks ago. Changed first, would not inflate, changed to second, inflated okay and got me to work - valve blew as I put bike in shed, had to buy new tubes and a new tyre at lunchtime (borrowed a mates car to go to LBS) - think a small wire must have been sticking out from tyre casing - but could not find fault, so changed it anyway!

result:- 3 tubes and 1 new tyre.

Hence, I now carry 3 spare tubes and a folding tyre!
  • Very unfortunate...

I've been visited by the fairy only 6 times in my whole commuting career of nearly 4 years in London, 2 years in Oxford, and some time in Cambridge. And one of those times my tyres were stabbed by would-be thieves. I know, I saw the CCTV!

Sadly I don't know what I'm doing right...

Oh and I realise I'm now going to be plagued by 'unscheduled deflations'... whoever posted that... wasn't me!

Had a few double-flat days myself, even more infuriating when it occurs twice in the same journey, and after your second spare has gone you have to walk....as a result I would carry 3 tubes too plus a repair kit.

    Guilty.

Just got around to fixing it this morning (man-flu related MTFDness); it was the biggest chunk of pointy glass I've pulled put of a tyre. Grr. There's now a huge hole right in the middle of a couple of months old tyre. Then, I realise my spare tubes don't fit the Pearson's deep-rimmed wheels. Double Grr. So, I was back to the original commute bike which is a bit twitchier and has worse brakes than the Pearson. I took it easy... but remained unscalped.

I was thinking of carrying in addition to this , a spare bike just in case anythinggores wrong with bike itself
