Evening riding

As a relative newcomer to cycling i try and limit my riding to the daylight hours, but If I do that, I ain't going to get the exercise I need.
I aim to get out for an hour at least one evening a week, and I get home from work sometime between 18:30 and 19:00.
Would you grab some tea and go bike later, or grab a banana, go bike and eat later ? :?:

I think that he gets home and then goes out on the bike....not sure there is any commuting involved.
I usually have a snack at work around 4pm and then go home for about 5 ish. I then hang around until my daughter is in bed about 7pm then go out....this results in me eating my tea about 9pm. I would rather do this than go out on an empty stomach although some people swear by not eating so close to bed time.17 Stone down to 12.5 now raring to get back on the bike!0 -
Depends what the roads are like where you are. Might be an idea eat and go out when things have quietened down?
Over summer I normally got in around 5:30 - 6pm and took off on the bike immediately, but it's still busy both in town and down the country lanes - which I can put up with in daylight, not at night. Now I eat and go out later.0 -

I can do 5 to 8 miles just going round the housing estate which is 'relatively' quiet - anything else involves dual carriageways, A roads, steep hills or a combination of the above. I think I'll try the 'avabanana' approach this evening.0 -

I get home and eat with the family between 6:00 and 6:30. Give the food an hour or so to settle down, then out on the bike at 7:30 ish. Most of the commuters are home by then so it's fairly quiet on the rural Suffolk roads I ride.
My stomach wouldn't wait till 9pm for feeding!!0 -

The local roads are fairly busy with work/school traffic from about 7 through till nine, so If i wanted to ride in the mornings and avoid traffic, I'd be out in the dark anyway. Given the proportion of morning drivers (*) who are half awake, drinking tea, still applying makeup, shaving (honest), can't work the demister/too lazy to clean the screen, I think I'd rather take my chances in the evening
(*) and those are my observations as a motorist :-)0 -

Well in that case then i would have my dinner wait an hour or so and then go out, but if you don't want to be out too late then that could take too long0 -

Today I will mainly cycling 53 miles to work along the M62, with a suitcase, laptop, and probably a whole load of other stuff in the panniers
I think not
n.b - got out for 3/4 hour lastnight before eating - would like to have done longer but it felt bitterly cold0
