...was good! I rode from Finsbury park to London Bridge (about six miles). Door to door in about fifty minutes.

In the world of SCR, I'd say I was scalped maybe eight times. I'm still pretty nervous at junctions and with a combination of getting off the bike and walking it up to the green bike zone rather than weaving through the stopped traffic, and being perfectly happy to let the other cyclists move into the lead, I'll not be competitive for a while yet.

Wonder if it was any of you guys who passed me...?

Nice one. You coming down the Holloway Road?

Wasn't me, as I come in from the south west.
    FCN 2-4.

"What happens when the hammer goes down, kids?"
    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."
  • Is anyone allowed to meantion FCN yet? Are we keeping quiet and denying it exists, despite all the evidence?
A few people made a few points today.....SSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

FCN 3 or 4 on road depending on clothing
FCN 8 off road because I'm too old to go racing around.
  • cjcp - nope, I scuttle across to stoke Newington then all the way down Kingsland Road then over London Bridge.

l_i_t - yeah, it was good. I felt like a bit of an eejit though - being done over by people in old clothes on rusty bikes. Because all my stuff's new and a bit trendy, I definitely feel like I look like an 'all-show, no-go' type. All hat and no cattle, so to speak.

Still, love the new bike. It's super comfy and fast enough for my needs. What a steed!

I go from Winchmore Hill to Bank, so I may have passed you this morning. Might be worth trying different routes, I go straight across at Manor House through to Newington Green and then down through Mildmay Park, on to Old Street and Moorgate. It's virtually a straight line.
    What time are you en-route?
  • Was probably passing the Manor House junction at 0720...

So you follow the route of the 141, pretty much?

I take the eastern exit at Newington Green. The route's a little longer, but I'd go for a ten-mile detour to avoid the Old Street roundabout - no fear!

I leave home about just before 7am so may well have seen you. Old Street is not so bad once you get used to it. You just need to watch out for people turning left so I normally take up position in the green box in the middle of the inside lane and give clear hand signals that I'm not turning left.
Yep, the old 141 route, not sure if it's changed in recent years as I last rode that bus route about 25+ years ago!
Give it a week or so and your confidence will build up.
