Come on Hamilton I was beside myself. pacing around like a pacey around thingy.
It has to be the greatest, and closest, finish to a season ever surely.

In these situations you're supposed to have a bady. Massa isn't one. At least Alonso didn't get to take him out!!

Shame we've lost DC though.

Aye, great race and result as it stands. I'd give it a day or two yet though. You never know what the governing body might have in their locker (other than a gimp costume ) to alter the result to suit e.g. penalty of 'x.xx' seconds to car 22 for Lewis taking far too long to replace the steering wheel etc.

Makes you wonder what kind of last minute pit area deal was done between Williams and Toyota -- I mean Hamilton was something 15 seconds down on Glock going into that last lap. Even with the wrong tyre he surely couldn't lose that much?

Still what a slap in the face for Massa -- until about 10 seconds to go he was world champ.

Anyway now Lewis has done the business, it's over to New York. Looking good for Paula at the moment, leading the breakaway group.
  • Everyone here in Spain was hoping Massa would win... anyone sooner than Hamilton.
  • So he is the new Schumacher then -- everyone hates him.

Great race – rather risky strategy, but where was his team mate again!!!!

I guess this scuppers Chris Hoy's chance for Sports Personality.

As someone with a little bit of experience in the motor racing world (albiet very briefly and very ameturish in comparison to F! ) yes you can loose that sort of time based on the wrong tyre choice.

Ok it should never ever have been this close, but the Gods were indeed smiling on Lewis today, I guess to make up for all the poor decisions of this season.

He seems a genuinly nice fella though so good for him if he wins sport personality, Ok I would love to see a cyclist but when you look at Hamilton Senior and the rest of the family he really has done something special. The fact the rest of the paddock hate him just makes it more special.

  • Slicks in that weather could easily lose you that much time - Spa this year was the same - hamilton and kimi couldn't keep it in a straight line on the last laps. Glock was something like 8 seconds behind over the line, so its not like he let hamilton past. Was surprised vettel went past hamilton after massa cheated him out of points at Fuji.

Loved the massa family reaction when they found out he hadn't won - even better than the French reaction when they lost the Olympics :)

Massa not the bad guy??? Ferrari have been cheating all season and massa was a disgrace at Fuji - i dont know if i was happier that hamilton won or that massa didn't.

Is formula 1 still a "sport" where only drivers from a couple of teams actually have a chance of winning a race unless there are mechanical issues for the top cars? As a kid I loved the sport, but as soon as Damon Hill started winning races because he was in the best car rather than being the best driver I lost interest. Haven't really followed it since. For Hamilton to be Sports Personality would be a joke in my opinion. I'd rather it was an Olympian or someone who completely dominates his/her sport.
  • Hey there,

I am amazed that Sebastian Loeb's far greater achievment has received almost no press. What the hell? He's only the most successful rally driver ever.

I used to love F1, but now it's a waste of valuable cycling time.

Why should it achieve more recognition here in England? As I understand it he is not English/ British. Similarily, the performance of Wigan or Bolton gets more publicity here than that of Real Madrid or Barcelona.

  • A bit too close for comfort and I'm still expecting Bernie to find some way of penalising Hamilton, so Massa & Ferrari win the title.
Was I deceived, or did a few cars actually overtake each other on the track, rather than during pit stops?
Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.

Rally is even less exciting than F1 is. Moto GP is so much more exciting than the both of them.
  • I agree that Loeb is the best of his current generation - but in the UK the World Rally Championship only gets coverage when there is a Brit winning, and even then Formula One tends to smother reporting on almost every other branch of the sport.

  • It simply means that Hamilton will now win BBC Sports Personality of the Year, on the only year when a cyclist ever stood a remote chance. Now he has won, Hoy will get 3rd (behind Adlington, because she is English and he is not) and cycling will slide back into anonymity once again. And F1 will have its 7th win.

    Gutted.
You only cycle cos you can\'t afford a car!
  • MotoGP is more exciting but most of that's due to the Eurosport coverage. Now that a BBC on the backfoot have the coverage for both, I'm expecting MotoGP TV to chill me to the bone (especially where it clashes with F1, when it'll be available only on interactive).

What an embarrassing time for you to spout out of date bullcrap! Several different teams and drivers have won races this season, at least four teams were genuine challengers (and another couple managed to on their day), the championship was close throughout, you had controversy, skill , tension fantastic drives and great personalities and a title decided AFTER the race had already been won.

So in short, the answer to your question is "no"

p.s. Felipe I still love you, I had to go hide in the loo when Glock lost it as I couldn't cope with the triumphalism of my 4 fellow race watchers. Next year, fella, next year.

There must be some chance of Toby, Julian and Randy ending up working for Auntie Beeb? I really hope so, Randy's insight was invaluable. Only went to the Beeb during the adverts so I didnt miss Valentino overtaking Pedrosa or Stoner :P

Biondino, "at least four teams were genuine challengers". For the title? Surely not.

BMW and Renault (well one of the Renaults, the other predictably speared off the track on the opening laps) weren't far behind Ferrari and McLaren.
Now for 2009 they've decided on a whole host of changes with the intention of creating more overtaking and closer racing. I wonder if it'll work though. Banning all the winglets, turning vanes, a return to slicks etc. is probably a good idea. It might eventually make it more competitive but normally when there's a lot or rule changes doesn't one team get it spot on and dominate from the off?

British cyclists won their weight in gold medals this weekend. Vicky won three.

Anyone see a damn' thing about that on the news? In the papers?
This post contains traces of nuts.
