This has been covered a lot of times in recent posts. have a read, but to answer quickly to the suggestions above...

    Spesh - good, heavier AFAIK
    Mich - good
    Gator - awful
    also look at Vittoria Rubino.

    Happy cycling.

Vittoria Rubino from Ribble - a bargin and are great as winter tyres (I use 25mm in the winter and have done me fine) there are lots of recommendations for these on this forum

  • Panaracer Pasela TourGuard in 23 or 25c

Armadillos are like riding on wooden tyres, Rubinos are very slippery when wet from my experience and also very hard to fit if you get the steel beaded ones (go for the Rubino Pros if you're tempted).

The Panaracers are smooth and fast but don't really look the part. the puncture protection is good but not on the sidewalls which are thin, hence the nice feel and performance. The grip in the wet is exceptional for a narrow tyre.
