  • Dude, I have the same bike, the only probs I have is the chain catches somewhere on the front rings/mech when across the gears (bottom at back, bottom at front) other than that its sweet

The seat is pony and I have swapped mine for a specialized toupe-somethin lighter, more confortable and more importantly, something with a cut out groove down the centre to allow blood supply to your 'jewells' !

Fitted SPD pedals, no probs here, make sure rear spokes are tight if you have the SSR rims, other than that, all good

'We go up we go down, this is bull sh*t yar'
  • cheers have not road the bike yet looks to sweet to take out in rain thanks for the comments think i may have same problems with gears may be down to slighlty bad set up from bike shop? also catchs big ring front small bag surely thats not right?

If your big ring front is catching your small bag, it's possible you've got the bike upside down!

    Ouch!

i just bought 1.7 2009 from evans cycles few days ago and so far it's a lovely and fast bike but i got some problems with rear gear alignments while on the front middle chainring. i just hear that grinding sound and know it's not right. it's all got shimano 105 components and i will be insisting evans to tweak it before and after first service. apart of that i love it! maybe the saddle is not so comfy as some other more expensive ones but i still got some time to get used to it and find the best set up/position...will keep you informed how the things go...;)

Gear alignment hasn't really got anything to do with the bike - it's where you bought it from that need to make sure it's set up properly.

I've had mine about 4 months now and it's been great.

Only thing I've changed is the saddle - and that's not unreasonable as different bums suit different ones.

About to change the bar tape for black too - I like it but the white is getting grubby and my saddle is black so it'll match again when I change it.
I'm left handed, if that matters.

K-Dog, i have exactly the same problem with the 2009 1.5, i've just purchased new black bar tape and going to attempt mine tommorrow, looked on you tube and it doesn't look tjhat difficult (famous last words  ) :D

small update...my ticking noises are not coming form rear derailleur but from front chain rings (small and middle). I'm going tomorrow to my LBS to get second opinion and back to evans to tell them to get it sorted once for all...i didn't buy rattlesnake i did buy a bike!
  • gear alignment is down to how the bike was put together, not the make/model. Bought my 1.7 last may, i love it. swapped the saddle and will be upgrading the wheels soon. Apart from that I have been over the moon with it.
the shop you bought the bike from should sort your gears FOC.
    Your'e never alone with schizophrenia.

o yeah! i'm thrilled with the bike. it's my first roadie so I'm still getting used to the ride (bought it only 3 weeks ago) and like I said on the biggest front chain ring it's running smoooooth when i can hear that cassette spinning sound (love it!). I'm going to my LBS this saturday for the first service/check up. noticed couple days ago that breaks started to judder. anyway...that will be all sorted out soon so it's all good...

It took me a bit of time to get to like mine - practical use in London a bit limited, gears a bit too fancy - but I have really got to like it now.

Yeah take it easy man, i was walking down Tooley Street the other night, and heard an allmighty scream.....

Turned around to see what happened, a cab had dropped off a fare just outside london bridge station and put his cab on a full lock and swung around really quickly from the side of the road whilst a bike was just riding past the side of his cab, the cyclist was so lucky he wasn't killed, he was lit up like a Chistmas tree with flourescent jacket and lights etc., but still the cab didn't see him....
