Anyone here using a BLT Spaceshuttle light mount?

I got one of these in the post today.

My intention was to mount my Tesco AA Cree LED torch on the upper mount block and have my Edin Bike Co-op Rev LED light on the lower mount block pointing slightly downwards to light up the immediate road surface ahead, the Tesco's sharp beam taking care of the road further ahead.

However, I honestly cannot believe the size of the main mounting point of the BLT Spaceshuttle!!!.

What sort of bars do these things mount on??!!!. They must be very small in diameter!!.

It simply won't appear to look at mounting anywhere on my FP1's bars. Even though the M.O.s.t. bars on my Pinarello begin thicker at the stem and taper as they go out, they are still looking like they are far too large in diameter to fit the shuttle mount.

A bit annoyed really, I kinda assumed these mounts would fit a wider range of sizes of bars.

Or am I just missing something here!!??.

  • I know this isn't helpful, but I couldn't think you were trying to mount a sandwich on your handlebars - which has just brightened up my evening :D

Yeah, it's certainly a strange name, innit?.

Well, I've finally got it mounted on the bike's bars. Not as close to the stem as I would have liked, but not bad.

I managed it by removing one of the circular rubber strips inside the actual clamp part. There were two in there, I think even with one removed it will stop any marking on the bars but its certainly gave me a little more room to play with. Mate of mine who I spoke to this afternoon reckons the size of the mount on the Spaceshuttle would indicate that its designed for a mountain bikes narrower diameter bars?. I dunno if BLT make one for roadies and one for MTB's, can't say I've seen that mentioned anywhere online by any places that sell them.

I have no idea how well this setup will perform, going to brave the winter chill tomorrow at 06.15am and commute to work, so I will report back after that and post the outcome.

Looking forward to actually trying this Tesco AA out at long last. 8)

Not sure about that, both the standard bars I had on my Marin, and the Carbon ones now fitted are oversized at the middle, ie 31.8's.
I'm sure those on the Spesh are oversized as well.

Be very interested to see the beam shots for the Tesco lights when you manage it.

I have Ayup's and a few 'Electron lights' and a friend is going to lend me a Fenix torch, so I was planning to post up some comparison beam shots of all of those.
