I have done many searches and many days with police forums and other torch forum all over the world , run times, length and looks.
This is my final review (mini) and here we go.
Fenix are the best by law enforcement and proffesionals and the cheapest.
...............................................................................................................
PD30- 118mm length 220 lumen at 1.5 hours on max cr123a batteries
TK10- 135mm Length 225 lumen at 1.5 hours on max cr123a batteries
AND THE WINNER IS: DRUM ROLL PLEASE.......................................
The TK11 Q 5 TACTICAL http://www.fenixtorch.co.uk/led_torches/fenix-tk11.html at 135mm on 18650 batteries (which are quite cheap) at ....... ready for it.... 225 lumen for 2.7 hours on max. Now for £49.95 you cannot beat that run time and power for the price, and I dare you. and its short and non-intrusive on the bars.
I for 1 am getting one of these bad boys tonight, if they are ok with SWAT USA they are ok with me.

This will throw you a wobbly then.
With all similar torches the rated lumen is usually achieved with two cr123 batteries not the 18650, you are running close to double the voltage with the cr123's so in reality more like 180 lumens with the 18650.The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.
Giant Anthem X0 -
Turbo Mode: 225 Lumens - 2.7 hours (18650)
1.5 hours (CR123A)
This is according to the web site.
But not up on wattage and volts ect.
So not sure how all that works0 -
Well done !
(although its only 1.5cm shorter than the L2D / LD20 so you cant say that they are intrusive either now !)
Let us know how you get on with it.0 -
Ah yes true, but
The TK is higher lumen and shorter, slightly, and longer run time on max
225 lumen at 2.7 hours, the LD wont do that.
But again the TK needs special batteries the LD doesnt.
So it almost seems tit for tat.
HA HA I SAID TIT
Actually the cr123a batteries seems better than the 18650 batteries and they are cheaper, but not such a long run time, but hey carry a few with you0 -
what batteries and charger are you going to use? these cr123 thingies i've never heard of, they like AA's?
ahh found em,
http://www.fenixtorch.co.uk/batteries/a ... eable.html
how many charge cycles are they good for?
"long range searches" sounds like it may have a narrow beam but very long throw?0 -
I took Dazzas advice and bought two of these:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12623
And a charger and two batteries.
60 delivered Had seen them on ebay, but this place is cheaper. If had have got when the ER was better, would have cost me 45 quid.
I think that beats the Fenix ;-)0 -
Get the batteries from the above site: I got two for 10 dollars, with a higher cpacity!0

How are these mounted Supersonic0

canada16 - i'm not sure you have started enough topics on the lights question. HOW CAN YOU BE SURE YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING?
I suggest you start 3 more threads, and do more research.0 -

Hey
Im just trying to help me and other people.
Most people are gratefull FSR_XC and RHYSD have you got a question or do you like making people look dumb ?
Anyway, which batteries would be best, the 18650 or the CR123A?
Buying the kit and need to know which batteries will last longer and have the most power.
Thanks0 -
it says on that fenix web that the 18650 give more lumins and the longer run time, i guess those are?0
-
I've got one on the helmet on my desk now - with an 18650 in.
Take the plunge canada16 !!0 -
How is the review coming along ?0
-
Well, ta. Very impressed with the light/cost/weight. Also got a Deal Extreme unit on the go.0
-
Excellent.
I think all of these lights are addictive tho. You just keep wanting more light !
And to think my crumby Pifco jobbies were good enough for me once...0 -
I know what you mean. I can't see it being long til these things knock out even more power.0
-
I remember thinking my 3 year old Cateye EL510 was the dogs danglies - it now looks about as powerful as a mobile phone light!0
-
I got a TK11 myself and very happy with it. Using 18650 cells (other than the first few rides where I used the CR123s it came with.)
The Light-Reviews.com TK11 review you linked to has a chart that shows an arguably more useful run-down profile on the 18650s compared with the CR123s in turbo mode (02:47 to 50% vs 01:40 to 50%):
The same review gives the CR123 batteries a slight edge in general mode:
BUT you need to bear in mind that AFAIK this would be with non-rechargable CR123s. They mention that they were using 1500mAh CR123s while the rechargables only go to 1000mAh max and even this is not common and indeed questionable , 600-800 might be more typical. So overall unless you are not using rechargables 18650 is the way to go.
DISCLAIMER: I am no expert and have just got the torch0 -
Im buying now.
Thanks guys so so much for the help.
I AM TAKING THE PLUNGE
................................................................
OK I have just bought can someone point me to a good charger with batteries and cheap, the ones on ebay look a bit iffy.
Thanks
18650 batteries if they are the best.0 -

dunno if it's any good or not, think "ultrafire" are a good known brand though?0 -
I have that charger, seems to work fine. Takes a while but I think that is normal for these batteries. Got it from DealExtreme which was a fair bit cheaper (as were the batteries.) Got the torch from thephotonshop who are UK based and delivered very quickly indeed.
Light, a Fenix TK11 (£50, extra £5 for the bike mount)

Charger:

Batteries (two of each, they seem identical):

Good deal on the charger, tried calling but item was shipped already, and paid extra for next day.
Oh well, those batts on the fenix site are so expensive.0 -
Well you would have been waiting a week or so to get stuff from DX but they are well worth it for future reference. You will probably want spare batteries anyway; I have ordered a spare charger too so I can have one in work one at home.0
-
Yeh DX is really cheap.
Will prob buy some later, but need something now, and ebay batts are all hong kong.
So long waits, will check around local area.
Thanks guys0 -
LOL
Amazing lights dude.
Cant beat it for 50.00 Put it on last night and woke up the neighbours.0 -
Forgive my ignorance, but I assume that you are all using such lights for road riding purposes?
The reason I ask is that I want to do some off-road night riding, and I need some lights for such purposes.0
