How do I work out what size BB axle I need to correct my chainline?

I guess it's much easier if you have one fitted that is too short or too long! Being mathematically simple I'd work from +/- whatever's there now - so if ring 4mm too far out, need an 8mm shorter axle - I think!
But I guess you'd have done that if that simple!

It is that simple if you know which taper your bb has - i.e. ISO or JIS.

What about chainstay clearance when selecting cranks?
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.
