At least that's what the BBC say
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_s ... 696002.stm
Spanish rider Alberto Contador will miss next year's Giro d'Italia and may also skip the Spanish Vuelta to focus on winning the Tour de France.

I expect we'll have lots of noise, bluff and bluster and then an announcement saying that St Lance will not be doing the Tour because of the attitude of ASO, the media, the French people, etc, etc and their 'lack of respect' for him (yawn !)

But that'll be a week or two - I'm coming round to agreeing with whoever it was who suggested that there was an announcement a week coming out of Astana/LA/Bruyneel, just keeping-up the tempo of the whole publicity circus.

The BBC prob read it on Cyclingnews in the early hours of this morning when the new broke
Yes, it looks like a deal-to-keep-Contador-in-the-team presented as news sort of thing. Wonder if Levi will get the Vuelta?:lol:

andy - slight pedantry re your sig line - a sportive could also be a person of a female persuasion who rides sportives............
    Bulbous also tapered
  • Yep, media non-story from Astana number 27 out of 534 in the next 9 months.

Next week: Lance uses specially researched hair gel that makes him 2.7 seconds faster per 59km on mountain stages................

    Cynical
  • Yeah but we know that Lance would use the hair gel if he could.

FCN 3 or 4 on road depending on clothing
FCN 8 off road because I'm too old to go racing around.

Don't worry, I reckon Johan is just putting the finishing touches on the addendum to the revised edition of his book.

Chapter 18 is entitled 'We might as well team up together and win (again)'. Will be riveting reading no doubt.

Just waiting on the third and final installment from Lance now - good things do come in threes don't they?

Wait a minute...thought this was about Contador???

I'm actually starting to reckon the anti-lance mob really needs him, whatever the topic they turn it into a LA discussion....without him they cannot release enough pent up venom...but with him back its 'back to business'

I reckon you would all rather see LA getting cuffed in the TDF than him not taking part at all?....a King getting dethrowned would be much more satisfying than the very 'average' winners we have seen of late?

A bit like listening to Glasgow Celtic and Rangers fans, both parties vow they hate each other but in stark reality they could not survive without each other....they need each other to build all that emotion and anger up...extreme happiness when there side wins, and extreme disappointment when they lose....they don't have the same emotion when there teams are playing kilmarnock and the likes...but the old firms the big one.

One problem though...the 'king' won't be easily dethrowned!

Interesting what the LA hate mob makes of this

Cyclosportif is the right word in French. It's an adjective, not a noun, so the adjectival ending changes to suit gender of the noun. If in doubt, or it is not specified, then the masculine is the default option, so cyclosportif is the correct term if not used with other words.

Back to the subject, I'm tired of the Astana team's hyperactive PR efforts. Will Contador have paella or omlette for lunch this Saturday?

In part this may be true, and I am anti LA. I think him retiring was a great thing as he and the sport got away with it. Coming back is a nightmare, imagine the damage he could potentially cause. If he is riding for free and just to raise awareness fo cancer, whilst noble, it is also disrespectful or at least flippant too.

Still, Im not sure that the winners of late are average. For 7 years, the Tour had an accepted finale. Now, the next generation are coming through. Is Contador really average?

I really want to put the Lance years behind me, it literally ruined the sport for me. Im now having to look at dealing with the arrogance and lies all over again!

I think Contador is in a terrible situation, he must be gutted

yep, as we suspected his holiness wants the remaining GC titles

give it a couple of weeks, there will be another PR from Contador saying 'my training and preperation schedule doesn't allow me to to the Vuelta or Giro this year'

one week after that... from St Lance ' Ok, ok, I'll race them... !!!'

I REALLY hope an italian wins the Giro this (centenary) year

  • I think Lance should ride some classics, come back as a one day racer in Benelux next Spring. The Vuelta wouldnt be much of a challenge for him and to be honest, I think hed be luck to survive the Giro!

Jeeez French press are nothing compared to Italian fans!
