The Smiths, Queen, The Velvet Underground, Supertramp, Flying Burrito Brothers, Country Joe & the Fish, classic line-up Throwing Muses. For starters.

floyd - only seen Roger Waters live and the amazingly good Australian Pink Floyd. I hate tribute bands but they sound exactly the same and with the original bands sound effects, film loops and floating pigs they are the next best thing.

+1 for Aussie Floyd - lost count how many times I've seen them now. Pushing 10 I think.

Would have loved to have seen the real Pink Floyd - I was 13 at the time of the Division Bell tour, and I wasn't really in to them way back then. Although there was little chance of seeing the whole line-up again (think Live 8 was only ever going to be a one-off), I would have liked to have seen Gilmour and his touring band, including Rick Wright.

Sadly, no chance of that anymore

Please no! All these bands reforming to re-live past glories/cash in - its just so depressing. It's the equivalent of when I was going to see the specials (saw them supporting the clash at the lyceum) and you had sixties bands like the Tremoloes or Gerry and the Pacemakers playing 'revival' gigs. Bleugh.

I never saw the Pistols - wish I had, but have absolutely no desire to see a reformed band with a bunch of old men pretending to be punks.

There's been rumours of that for ages but it never seems to happen. I'm sure I read about six months ago they were even rehearsing but then it went quiet again. I suspect Dammers is dragging his heels over this one.

Was lucky enough to see the classic Metallica line up twice - once at Donnighton Monsters of Rock and shortly afterwars on the Master of Puppets tour just 14 days before Cliff's tragic demise.

To be completely honest there are not many bands I'd like to see that I've not already managed to catch in one incarnation or another.

    - Moby Grape
    - Big Star

And any other obscure ones that probably no-one else has ever heard of....

I have to be honest and say Queen.....not cool I know.

  • I was lucky enough to see Queen twice in the 1980s -one unforgettable gig was at Wembly the year after they reminded everyone at Live Aid what they could do live. FM had 80,000 people mesmerised - amazing evening despite the rain!

Did anyone actually see Kate Bush live? Didn't she only ever do one tour?

  • Sam and Dave backed by the Stax house band, Booker T & the MGs plus the Bar-Kays.

Otis Redding (see above for the backing band)

Muddy Waters and any of his classic lineups including Little Walter, Willie Dixon etc

Howlin' Wolf and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Only joking about the backing band)

Kate Bush would be great to see live. In a perfect night I'd like to see:
    1) Kate Bush
    2) Black Grape
    3) Queen
in that order- each playing fror about an hour. Oh and free beer.

    I can do 10:

    Joy Division
    The Smiths
    Nirvana
    JAMC
    Ride (c. "Nowhere")
    U2 pre-Unforgettable Fire
    The Chameleons
    The Go-Betweens
    My Bloody Valentine ("Loveless" tour)
    Gary Numan (c. 1980 - I was a huge fan as a kid)

I also wish I'd seen...Echo and the Bunnymen pre-split and reformation (I saw them at Glasto '97)...and Radiohead at Glasto 97: I only saw a little bit out the back of an ambulance, as I escorted my mate to the medical centre, for treatment, er, ahem <<discrete veil drawn>>

And I'd love to see Tindersticks again

    Sigh

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Ohmigosh, can't believe I missed out Buckley. The Cure in a small venue...oh, lovely lovely lovely lovely...remember when they did the small venue tour in the early '90s? I worked with a guy who went to see them about 3 times at different venues...

    :(

Erm, what about ZZ Top playing most of their 80's stuff (Gimme all your Lovin', Sharp Dressed Man, Legs, Bad Girl) and some 90's stuff (Rough Boy, Burger Man, Stages)?

    Well, I like 'em

    Faith No More
    Ministry circa Psalm 69
    Coil performing Time Machines
Skinny Puppy with full line up - Too Dark Park tour
    Alice in Chains

There would be an enormous list of techno perfomances I wish I'd seen but those are events rather than bands.

    I feel quite old reading through this as I've seen a lot of the bands people had wished they'd seen;

The Smiths (at least 3 times)
The Jesus and Mary Chain (twice - including one of the 'riot' gigs in Camden)
    Johnny Cash
The Go-Betweens (5 times at least)
    New Order
The Cure (in a small venue)
    The Stone Roses
The Pixies (twice in a week)
    Ride
    My Bloody Valentine

    Two bands I wished I'd seen are;

Joy Division (like so many others on here)
The Who with the classic line up (Daltrey, Entwistle, Moon and Townsend)

Glad no-ones mentioned the Beatles or Stones, or at least I didn't notice

only one for me, the Pistols

seen lots of the bands mentioned, without doubt, the Clash live were unbeatable

Television, Joy Division, Blondie, Specials, Slade, SAHB, Iggy Pop, Bowie, Rezillos, Ramones, Velvets, The Jam, Angelic Upstarts, XTC, The Skids, The Only Ones, Be Bop Deluxe - all brilliant live. I'm almost turning Japanese at the memories

Had two good discussions with the singer out of the Cure, and a much briefer chat with Joe Strummer

Top tip - don't dwell on the ones you missed, get out there and see what's going around now, The Pigeon Detectives anyone ?

Some of those early 60's pop bands like Gerry and the pacemakers, Buddy Holly etc
Elvis in full white jump suit era
Stones and the Beatles say about 1963 in a small club
    U2 (early)
    Queen (mid 80's)
    Deep Purple mid 1970's
    Led Zep early 70's

Anyone know where I can buy a Tardis to achieve some of the above ?

The Who from the late 60s and lots of Soul acts from the 60s but picking one probably Otis Redding - his show at Monterey is my favourite live footage of any act.

Of those I was into at the time and could have seen but didn't probably The Jam - probably at the end of their career.

And one band I'm not a huge fan of but any 60s mods I've talked to rate the Yardbirds as an incredible live act.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.
