Interview in the Guardian this morning:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008/oc ... on-cycling

"What other sport has to deal with the attitude we get as cyclists on the road? I certainly haven't noticed any sudden courtesy to cyclists in the wake of us being the most successful British team in the Olympics. I cycle to the velodrome most days and I have one narrow escape for every hour on the road. I just think, 'Holy shit, I could die on my bike out here.'

"To a cyclist, these bloody motorists might as well be running around with a loaded gun. When you have that sort of attitude towards cyclists how are we going to move our sport into the mainstream?"
"We're not holding up traffic. We are traffic."

I'm on the train to Manchester from London on Friday morning to watch the event. Should be a good one! I wonder if she cycles to the Velodrome on the day of an event like this?!

You lucky bugger, I'm very jealous!

Looked at going, but I'm training (in class) this weekend, so seemed little point, as would have wanted to go for the whole weekend.

Enjoy, and post some piccies please :D

I'm going to Revolutions on 15th November. Not sure if VP'll be there but I'll try and get some pics :)

Lets face it, I think I've got more chance with Vicky Pendleton, after LiT's underwhelming response to my woo-ery

I wonder if she likes 'romantic poetry'. I could recite a ballad or two from the edge of the boards

From what I know of her (and I've been hiding in the undergrowth outside her house and going through her rubbish every tuesday (bin day) for three months) I'd say you have no chance. The stalker rota is chocka at the moment, all the prime lurking spots in the undergrowth are taken and there's currently a three year waiting list for hanging around the garage at the end of road just in case she runs out of milk.

You can set up (another) online tribute site (VICKIILOVEYOU.com - is taken, by me) if you like but I offer no encouragement.
Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.

    What would Thora Hurd do?

I have a lot of respect for VP. She'll state the facts in a controlled and profound way, whether thats about the training or our woes on the roads. Some of the other atheletes are a waste of space even if they do win. :?

She's quite forthright - like Chris Hoy, only prettier.

(see recent remarks about absurd decision to demolish local velodrome following 7 gold medal track cycling haul)

I think Bradley Wiggins is also pretty frank, but frankly not pretty.

Lets enjoy the fact that journos are presently interested in what they have to say. It'll be over in a blink (as soon as the Aussies are better than us again).

No, no, he rides a horse.

I'll have you know he's pretty damn pretty...

Not really the right word though, I'll grant you.

Today is a good day to ride

You'd be jealous that for about 2 months my ride home began with a wait at some lights starting at a 30 foot poster of Chris Hoy in his skin suit holding his bike over his head, then?

Well, not that I am in the habit of staring at men in skin suits, mind you. But had I been inclined to look up...I'll stop digging.

Yes, yes, I would. However, I would probably have been late for work even more than I am at the minute...

I'll second downfader's observation about her words being controlled but profound. When I read that sentence I thought:

"When you have that sort of attitude towards cyclists how are we going to move our [mode of tran]sport into the mainstream"

    Bravo, Victoria!

She is right about the attitude of a minority of drivers, but I like to think that this minority's attitude is not directed simply at cyclists: they have no regard for anyone else, full stop.
