slippery roads, grippery tyres

I am awaiting my Kona Paddywagon ss commuter and want to throw on some dependable tyres to get me through the winter months, they need to be:

fast rolling, relatively durable, perform well in the wet, puncture proof ish...

I always ride Pro race 2/3 but they are not for winter commuting, they slit easily and are not very confident in the wet, so I was thinking of Continental Gatorskins?

Also considering them in a 700 x 25 - would they be better than 21, 23?

All thoughts would be great.

Defo go for a wider tyre, nothing wrong with 25s in the winter and makes you appreciate your skinny ones when you get back to summer riding...good training.

Gatorskins are ok, my missus won't have anything but spesh armadilllos which have never let her down, I'm a fan of conti 4000s 4 seasons which I think roll a bit quicker.

  • I've been running Gatorskins for the last 500 miles or so. They roll much better than the old Nimbus Armadillos I had before but I'm not sure that I would say the wet grip is brilliant - OK and no worse than the Nimbus, just not brilliant. Having said that, I don't know what tyres would be better. For me, the Gators seem like a good compromise for my usage.

  • I vote for Conti 4 seasons - they've been great throughout this wet & windy summer. And I've had no punctures (yet).

Been asking about this in the Workshop looking for slicks for my MTB, and Specialized All Conditions Pro seem to be the winner over there with the Gatorskins recommended too.
Today is a good day to ride
