Hello,
I went out on a ride the other day and noticed my brakes were making the wierdest noises :? i got home and had a look to find that they were completey cleen and everything was done up tightly there brand new so there not worn and there not contaminated but when ever a brake hard with either brake there sort of make a noise thats a little bit like spokes twanging but a bit softer its kept me confused ever since it first started so dose anyone know what this noise could be?

Doesn't sound too serious, disc brakes can make noises, let them bed in for a few more rides, the noise should stop.

What sort of noises should they make when bedding in?

I keep noticing mine (Avid Juicy 5) making scraping noises - like what I would be used to if a wheel was slighly buckled with rim brakes - but it comes and goes.

I am new to the old disc brake thing, and just wondered if this is normal - I reckon it probably is - as there are no problems with braking at all
  • discs could be allined wrong or mybe the disc is warped..

but it could be something completely differnt as im not to sure whats what with disc brakes :L

I replaced my Hayes 9's with Stroker Trails and they've made a weird noise ever since, sounds like the spokes are being ripped off the hub :p I've checked everything (rotor bolts, alignment, spoke tension etc.) multiple times though and not found a problem, still don't know what causes it though. It freaks people out to when I brake hard behind them so it's all good.

mine do this now and then, i just put it down to dirt getting between the pad and rotor

If mine do this I go down a hill with the brakes slightly applied. Gets rid of the noise and beds them in nice.

IMO disc brakes make this sound when they are new, the pads are new and thus catch on the rotor as it spins and of course when mud/ wet grime gets on there it makes it worse.

To be honest mine were new in Feb and still make that sound occasionally usually after a grimey ride.

Wouldn't worry too much but make sure your wheel ain't dinged.

Thats prity much the same sounds mine make, you found out what it could be yet?
