Can anyone recommend me a bike?

Looking at spending Under £500, 5 mile commute each way, some off road, some on.

    Hi. I'm also looking at a new bike, similar commuting distance, considering the Specialized Globe Pro, my local Evans are selling the 2008 model for £550 (down from £750), does anyone have any views on the Globe?

    Does your employers run a cycle to work scheme? If so what type could limit the shops you can go to.

    Hi 4dam - not sure they operate a scheme but I am trying to get them to run the bike2work one with Evans Cycles.

    5 miles, you'd get away with virtually any hard tail MTB or hybrid. The choice of which to go for depends what other riding you'd do when not commuting.

    I guess your either after a cyclocross bike, or just a hybrid.

    Carrera subway 8 will fall into your price bracket I believe, low maintenance too.
