Hi there im not very technical. i have a 07 stumpjumper which has sram transmission (iv always had shimano) and i really like it, the only thing i dont like is the cassette its too big, iv never really used the lower half of the gears. i find im spinning to fast.
Iv been looking at road cassettes and i cant seem to find many sram ones, will i have a problem using shimano ones with the mech? (its an x-9)
i was speaking to someone who had put a road cassette on his mountain bike n he said "stick a 17 or 18 on it" but this means nothing to me.
so i was wondering if anybody knows what this means and if the road cassette will fit straight on my mountain bike hub?
thanks in advance
Jon

fit what you want Sram or shimano.
adjust the position of the top jockey wheel.
Sounds like you need to get offroad and find some hills."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

You can use a Shimano cassette. Just make sure it is the same 'speed' as before ie 9 speed.
Of course your high gear wont be any higher (in fact maybe lower unless you get an 11 tooth small cog) but the spread will be closer.0 -
iv found plenty of hills but if you need the granny ring and the lowest on this girly cassette you may as well get off n run. ok thanks for your replys i shall put a shimano cassette on. j0

You need low gears around here! (sheffield). I run 11-320
