Hi.

When I change gears at the back I get a weird squeaking noise, I thought it was the chain needed oiling, so I did that, still heard it, so today had a closer look and the 2 cogs on the derailleur are wobbly, you know the 2 cogs I mean right? Well I am wondering are they supposed to be wobly? If not any way to fix them? I have to cycle 70 miles tomorrow so want to get it sorted ASAP.

Thanks!
Will.

The jockey wheels might need lubing. 8mm spanner/3mm allen key needed to remove the bolts, caps and shaft. I know they are plastic running on metal but they have squeaked in th past on my bike. Smear some grease and reassemble. Only do one wheel at a time as they are different widths.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

You may also want to oil the pivot points in the rear derailleur. Watch the rear derailleur while changing gear, see where it pivots. Apply 2 or 3 drops of lube to those places where it pivots. Cleaning and relubing the chain may also help.

Thanks, will try that, although only have some finish line lube here, got WD40 at home and some other stuff.

So are they supposed to be wobbly?

The jockey wheels should have a little side to side play and a very slight wobble if you try to twist them, anything more and they are probably worn especially if they are squeeking. :?

Is it possible to replace them?

They only squeak when changing gear or when I push on them, so when I change gear the chain obviously seems to kind of tug sidewards on one of em, might need some oil, I hope it'll be ok though for tomorrow to get home then I can get to bike shop get it fixed :)

yes you can replace derailleur jockey wheels. If you were to replace them, make sure you purchase ones with sealed bearings.
