    If LA goes for it:

    Contador
    Lance
    Evans

    If he doesn't;

    Contador
    Evans
    Schleck Jr

Difficult to argue with you Redddragon at this early stage
  • If Lance is focussed on competing at the tour and recovered from the Giro, it will be:

    Armstrong
    Contador
    Leipheimer

I really believe Astana can sweep the podium. Lance will be ahead of Alberto after the first TT and then by the first rest day after 3 big mountain stages in a row he will be leading and the support will be there for Lance.

    Realistically, it will be:

    Lance

    Contador

    Levi

and we will have to discern the real winner of the race from the placings below thi

I can see it being an Astana precession up the mountains with the Astana train sucking the life out of the racing. Nobody is believing that these three riders will be clean. They will be doped and they will dominate the race.

    I hope I am wrong.

    Like CSC did this year?

CSC didn't have Contador, Leipheimer and Armstrong. The three strongest Tour riders in the world. The 1,2,3 idea is very plausible.

Do you think that's an exciting propostion, Arkibal?

I'll give you Contador, but Leipheimer has never won a GT and Armstrong is an unknown given that he hasn't ridden a meaningful race for over 3 years.

Sastre, Menchov and Evans all have a more valid claim to being stronger GT riders than Leipheimer.

I think Menchov will win, Vandevelde 2nd and Contador 3rd...LA will not be in the top 6...he's too long away...
  • I think Dennis Norward could win!

Seriously, it is way to early to know who will be able to ride. Could be Contador though.

    1. A Schleck
    2. Contador
    3. Evans

Armstrong - maybe top ten if he rides.

  • 1. Im gutted Armstrong is back. Its like watching a train crash begin in slow motion for me at the moment.

    1.Contador
    2. Schleck
    3. Leipheimer/Evans

I think the TTs are shorter next year than when Armstrong was racing proper arent they? Might not give such an advantage. Plus, LA is rumoured to ride the Giro, if so I doubt he will be anything more than a domestique for Contador in the tour; lets face it, he took all year to train for the tour so I cant see after 3 years off, him riding the giro and expecting to be podium fit for the tour...
  • I reckon Contador will win at a canter. I reckon Armstrong won't get near it. Schleck doesn't have the desire to win a tour I think.

    Contador
    Valverde
    Leipheimer.

I find it hard to imagine realistic scenarios where Contador does not win next year's Tour.
    So, Contador 1.
For the rest of the podium it's still very early. Andy Schleck, Evans, Sastre, and Valverde are contenders. And, if he's allowed to start, I could see Basso getting there, his return to racing in Japan was quite impressive. Leipheimer might be too much if both Contador and Armstrong start the Tour; someone has to do the domestique work. I think Lance can get into the top 10 :? . And, I could see Kreuzinger, Gesink or Brajkovic making a real break-through, perhaps into the top 5 or even more. Interesting year...
  • It's a simple equation, to me. Armstrong, Contador and Leipheimer can all put out above 6.2 w/kg at ftp, nobody else in the field can and Armstrong, even at 85-90% of his previous performances will be up above 6.3-6.4 w/kg. That's why I think he'll win he Tour if he decides to do it. I'd rather see them all caught for epo or for blood transfusions seeing as anything above 6.0 w/kg at ftp is pretty much impossible without dope.

 Very astute, but all that science means nothing, Armstrong trains in the rain and every day remember? Thats why he is so fit, unlike the others

Note to self; lose the bitterness at my sports history being duped (not a typo)
  • Its Gota Be
    Astana To Win with contador

    Contador
    menchov
    levi

Is anyone going to the tour in 2009 if so any tips.

This wins the top podium spot as the most pointless post, on the forum's most pointless thread.

I wonder how many times and under how many different banners, will we be asked to "pick" a podium for the only race many give a t**s about, during the next, nine months?

Patrick has the answer to all our doping woes. Cancel the Tour.
Slap a 2 year ban on anyone with a 6+ output, as they are obviously dopers. Everybody else submits their stats and the rider with the best numbers wins!

It's going to be a long, cold winter.........
