Bike Insurance

Evening all, was just wondering what people think about Bicycle insurance? Does anyone have it? Ive just joined my local gym and the bike is going to be sitting outside quite a lot, its lit and will be locked up but don’t think I could afford to lose it!
Does anyone else leave their bike outside frequently in a public place? What lock do you use? Ive got a big dirty motor bike chain that ill probably leave there!
Probably just being paranoid but it would be interesting to hear what everyone else is doing

I insure my bike, cause it was expensive and id be gutted if it got nicked. But i also get cover in case some tw*t hits me and drives off, also if i hurt anyone/ damage their property and its my fault. Its only £6 a month and little hassle to arrange so worth it really. The only downside is having to shell out to buy a lock that the insurance reckon is hardy enough even if you already own an adequate one.0

I'm doing nothing ... except buying decent locks and not leaving my bike in dodgy areas0 -
If you have home contents insurance you should check whether your bike is covered with them before buying more insurance cover - in particular whether bike theft is covered both from the home and elsewhere. I buy third party cover only (my bikes are covered under my household insurance policy) in case I crash into something or someone and I get sued...covers legal costs of defending myself and any damages awarded against me up to a certain level (eg £1m).Time VRS Pro-Team 08 – weekend steed

try not to park my bike in the same place everyday in case someone takes a shine to it.We are born with the dead:

Cheers for the replies!
Ive no idea if Basingstoke town centre is dodgy or not but ill do my best to try and pick different places. They have some bike lockups that are lit etc but i was surprised to see there were not CCTV cameras directly on them (Plenty else where). Ive not quite got a place of my own yet but when i do ill be sure to sort out some home and contents insurance and make sure it covers the bike. I quite like the idea of having a policy that covers me if i hit someone else though, touch wood its never happened but life is full of surprises!

I've asked Manchester city council if they could direct a few of their thousands of CCTV cameras they have in the city centre at cycle parking bays.
Their answer .... NO .

I've just insured mine with E&L - the best deal after a bit of shopping round - have a look at www.eandl.org.uk/cp0

I have mine with ETA, also do car insurance as well. but with your bikes it also offers a 'breakdown' coverOfficers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men0

E&L! - NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, they are great till you want to claim then they can be one of the worst to deal with.Doesn't matter how many lights you have nor how bright -
If the buggers don't LOOK they won't see you!0 -
I just had a look at E&L's terms and they insist that your bike be locked inside your house at night. Seems they wouldn't accept my business then, because my bike is locked up in a detached garage.0

Added bikes to house insurance with frame numbers and photo's - cost me £25 per year extra. Also joing ctc £35 per year with full 3rd party liability cover - cheapest there is.

I asked about specifying items on my home & contents cover... e.g cameras, bikes etc by serial #. They said not to worry unless any item is over £1000. i.e. any per item item per event under £1000 is covered....Embrace cynicism…. see the bigger picture!!!!0
