Cyclists using mobile phones

Are there many cyclists out there who use mobiles when peddling along? I see hardly any cyclists on my commute so have no evidence that this occurs

I've witnessed numerous people cycling around Wimbledon, in the dark, with no lights, no reflectives, wearing dark clothes, *and* talking on a mobile phone.

Unfortunately each time I have been so shocked I have been rendered speechless, so have yet to advise any of these people that they are asking for an accident.

I often peg it down the high street while talking on my mobile (non hands free of course) occasionally shouting "GET OUT OF MY WAY PEASANT" if anyone should cross my path.

Not commuting - but on a Sunday ride I have phoned my mates further down the hill to see what they were doing. It was an empty road - I wouldnt have done it otherwise.

    Not reccomended though.

... but not illegal, I gather. Like speeding, the legislation is framed for motor vehicles, so you'd get done for something else (dangerous cycling, for example?).

There's only one time to use your phone on a bike, and that's without hands free just as you've blown a shaved roadie away up a hill on your 2 tonne mtb, I could only just talk and was breathing out of the top of my head, but you should of seen his face  I had to have a lay down at work to recover, but it was worth it

I've only seen it done on the local cycle paths, not on road.

I've seen it far, far too often and it is amazes me. I have done it twice, both times on a large cycle path, goi ng very slow and I checked nothing before or in front for a good 500 metres at least as it is a long straight wide path. But yes, I have done it and guilty for it. Not again, looking for handsfree but might even avoid that as distracting.

I find it quite hard to hold a phone and a cigarette at the same time so I tend not to

I was walking in Bushey Park (near Hampton Court) at dusk a couple of days ago. On three occasions I heard voices coming at me through the gathering gloom , then the figure of a cyclist appeared and passed by me.
I don't think I have ever seen it happen elsewhere.

i dont use my phone whilst cycling although i used to do
  • I reported in a recent rant that some walley on the phone cut right out from a junction in front of me without looking because he was on his phone. Both he and the person he was talking to got an ear full from me.

The only time to use your mobile when cycling is when you pass someone on a much better bike - hold the phone out to take a picture and ask the guy to catch up as you want to get him in the shot :D

 Only joking kiddos - never use that phone, not even in jest :)
