Did anyone else see the report saying that there was going to be 40-50 mph gusts this evening?

I saw the weather report just before I was going upstairs to get ready for work, and decided to drive in today instead.

At first I thought I may have made a mistake as there was little wind this morning but it is starting to pick up now.

The wind is Westerly and as I cycle due West to get home I figured I'd kill myself trying to cycle into a 50mph gale.

Very windy here (Cornwall) - proper head wind that really slowed me down eariler!
  • We've got that weather over here in North Wales already, too. This morning I turned back from my westerly journey to Llandudno Junction, as I wasn't going fast enough to catch my train: I went south/south-east to Colwyn Bay instead. On the way home this lunchtime, I got the wind on my side, and I almost got blown into the sea wall!

Bangor's soggy, Colwyn Bay isn't yet. Everywhere's windy. I've got to go back out for a 4pm lecture, so I'll get to see it all over again.

It is a tad breezy in Richmond, where I am working from home. Binned the lunchtime fake commute in the park. Instead I am watching the trees sway beyond the window with a cup of tea and a second slice of cake.
  • Met Office has just put out a severe weather warning for Gwynedd and Conwy: heavy rain and gusts. Capel Curig (in the heart of Snowdonia) has landed gusts of 67mph already.

The Met have severe warnings for Cumbria and the Western half of Scotland too.

I'm over in Chester, guess it's heading my way, looks a bit blowy now!

I normally check the forcast each day, but I've not done so for a bit, hope I don't get caught out tonight.

  • My windsocks (the flags on the barkers building) are indicating a fairly hefty wind, westerly as ever... I don't have a gust report...

    Unless...

The heathrow TAF is showing a south-westerly 15knot gusting 25kt.

    There you go.

    Are you pregnant?

Horizontal rain up here - bad weather doesn't usually put me off going out, but it's really manky weather, so I abandoned the 40 miler that I'd planned.

A quiet day in reading, surfing, eating, supping tea (darjeeling, thanks for asking).

    I prefer lapsang suchong myself.

Bangor is now very soggy. Downhill from the station, with a tailwind, through puddles and fords, passing cars left and right. Fantastic! 8)

    Yuk! It's like drinking kippers!

Still blowing a gale and chucking it down - or up. Some leaves've just flown vertically up passed my 3rd storey window.

Can't be: I don't like kippers. Besides, I never find bones in my tea...
  • Well I made it home safely in the end. Anyone else?

I actually pedalled 20 miles today, as I came home for lunch. Average 9.7mph, but I blame the wind. Why I set a new distance record in this weather is beyond me.
