I'm going to sneak out for a ride on Monday afternoon while I'm in the north-east - does anybody know much about the Deadwater trail in Kielder Forest?

For a first visit, is it easy enough to find the parking / trails, what's the signposting like, and will I be able to pick up a route map somewhere?

I've found this pdf map http://www.moredirt.co.uk/trail/0/Deadwater-Trails---Kielder-Forest/160/ - but by the time I've printed it out, it's looking pretty blurred!

Thanks!

Try Googling the Keilder Trail Reivers website - all the information that you'll need is on there. There's only one road into and out of Keilder Forest so you'll REALLY need to try hard to get lost. Plus theres loads of car parks all along the length of the reservoir - take your pick!

  • Cheers Dave - I keep seeing links to keildertrailreavers.com, but that address is dead.

I've just had a chat to a very helpful bloke at the bike shop there as well - I think I'm gonna have some fun on this one!
  • They've moved the website!

  • I've ridden it a few times it's a pretty good little trail. The single track section near the end is a blast plus if you can be bothered with the extra long fire road climb the rapid descent down another bit of fireroad before it is fast and fun too.
  • Been, seen, loved it!

Only had enough time and daylight to see about a half of the trail, but chomping at the bit to get back.

Parking right at the trail head, sweet little skills area to get warmed up, and then a great mix of zomming singletrack spaced with forest trail - some good climb to get the legs working, and berms berms berms to test the tyres out.

Despite the floods all over the country, the tracks were all well drained, with only a few fjords to cross, and everything was there for the taking. Some of the downhill sections were pretty technical - but nothing that a bit of grit can't get you through.

Shame the bikewash was not working, but then it was a monday night in late October, so fair enough.

Really need to get back with 3-4 hours to spare to ride the full circuit, and take a few shots at the black section too. Long way to go though!
  • Looks like 2009 Kielder is going to get even better
